So Alienware announced a new Steam Box, the "Alpha" starting at $549. That great price gives you an "i3" CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive along with a custom "Maxwell" GPU, likely something similar to a 750 Ti or 750. Everything is replaceable except for the GPU. And an Xbox 360 controller plus Windows. So much for the "Steam" in Steam Box...
I think it's just about the perfect small form factor machine. If it uses something very similar to a 750 Ti, then the system would use about as much power as a modern console and still be able to game at 1080p. And yeah, it's smaller than consoles.
Because its the GPU that matter more? But it's also pricier than the consoles, so I'm not sure who is gonna get that.
If people from emp forums are any indication, people who own lots of steam games tend to never actually play them.
Pffff, small form factor steam boxes are so last week. We have handhelds now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM63RuEhgHU Rumored to sport a quad core CPU (likely Cherry Trail) and 4GB of RAM. It's called the "SteamBoy". It's made by neither Valve nor Nintendo. Talk about lawsuit city.
