It would be a huge shame if escort got pulled. Escort is a great map to fill up the server, and after all the changes on it, it's actually... sort of... kind of balanced. And at least the rounds are fun. This should be high priority for forum members who dont suck at mapping. (which luckily enough is not me)
true.. maybe we can have only classic maps on the rotation but keep the inf maps for votes yeah i really like escort if you have all seniors playing.. if you got some noobs or gi janes who use nuke tanks it gets a little boring.. but i dont ever have lag on that map and i agree it seems more balanced then ever..
The big skybox around the whole map is the thing that bothers me the most. It would take alot of work, but that needs to be fixed FIRST. A proper skybox must be made. I will make an attempt at fixing it, but no promises.
Wow, i missed this thread for the whole hour. Most of the stuff that has been posted is stuff i've seen and fixed before, but Doobie kept telling me to stop working on it. I'm going to work on it and try to fix it all, for once and for all.
But i'm already working on it. I'm gonna get some needed sleep now, but so far i've been starting a better skybox and reworking some brushes to seal leaks. The skybox won't be ideal, as I'm changing the map so that it doesnt look any different when you play it. If someone else turns that junk outside the play area into a 3d skybox, I could make an even better level sealing skybox.
Well, i didn't know that. I am working on the brushes surrounding the BE base, like this: http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/1028/escortcomparepz3.jpg The brushes on the left are the original, the ones on the right are the new ones. 9 brushes to 3, func_detail so they don't block vis.
Glad to hear it's hopefully getting optimized, escort has been almost unplayable for me since 1.07. Hell Sof (before the optimization), ran faster than escort for me.
Keep making changes like that. I'm working on sealing the map better, not merging unecessary brushes. I'm also fixing some minor visual issues, such as the occasional texture that is scaled wrong and looks out of place. Merging this will be a pain, so we should probably post frequent updates of our versions of the map. I haven't had any performance problems on that map even there has been 30 players on it or even more.
I'm sure that any speed increase will be appreciated by all remember how bad District was before Solo?
Escort is a fantastic map and I've had many many awesome games on it... over and over again. for new players it offers instant fast pace combat and teamwork.
The texturing on this map is maddening! I wish doobie would have been more consistant with his texture scaling, that would make this so much easier. Currently, any attempt to reduce brush usage in the walls ends up screwing up the texture position. I think i'm gonna start over, using solokiller's modified map as the base.

it can't be good that you're both working on it... one of you make a claim, or decide to do seperate areas or something.
Every server will start out with zero players, and there will be times when there are less players on different servers. Also, the maps are really fun anyway, I don't think occasional low player counts would be an excuse to keep them, but rather the fact that they are quality maps and people enjoy them.

Merged as many of Solokiller's changes as I could find into my version of the map. Also made a few optimizations for VIS involving proper use of func_details. http://rebootilicious.rbcorner.com/emp_temp/emp_escort.rar Right now, I can't decide if I want to make the center area at the first flag into a func_detail, or just make it block vis. If I make it a func_detail, VIS wont take as long to compile, but as to how much this helps, I don't know. If I make it block VIS, you might get a slight FPS gain when behind it.
