Define miss. The USAF I think requires all shots to be within a 25 foot radius or something. You hit the target for the simple reason that you spam 70 rounds a second. If you aim in the general direction, SOME of those will hit. But will all? Of course not. You're aiming at a target that is nearly a mile away on a plane that is vibrating and being pushed around.

Were you to mount the GAU-8 on a test bed so the recoil was absorbed and the gun didn't move any...sure, you'd hit a higher percentage of time....but in it's actual use case scenario the gun isn't that accurate.
