What happened to 5, shit. You're driving a hard bargain. Putting a price tag on it doesn't help, engi is going to drop ammo if he can, so really that's just putting strain on the team if they are tight on res. Not to mention the rage when people can't have ammo because the new player engi is trying to listen to com (I need money no one drop ammo) and a rifleman is getting low/out. 8 ammo boxes = a barracks? That won't end well.
If you make Ammoboxes meleeable this problem becomes nonexistent and validates the use of the strategy. I hear thanks to predom..
I was refering to making this problem exactly the same as in SC, not fixing the problem. but yeah, it would be interesting to have an SVN version with an ammo box costing 5-10 res, and walls costing 5 res or so a section. same with camera's. Note that you can recycle walls, and cameras remotely as well, so you could get the res back, and you can't spam walls and recycle to waste res. the main idea would be to make it cost SOMETHING to use engy buildings.
If one was to do that, it would be logical that playing Engi creates resources (a rate of 10 res per minute for example) so you can offset your own cost. Otherwise commander would need a way to restrict engineers from building, and that would snowball bigger problems.
People would still place ammoboxes at refineries. Why not just make two simple fixes? A: Can't drop ammoboxes near refineries. -Or- B: Ammoboxes doesn't block friendly or enemy building placement? Don't add bad things that will only make things worse.
That was actually my point, it wouldn't "fix" anything, just change things laterally. Either of those solutions would work if we had established this as a problem to begin with. I and many others believe it is a sly RTS tactic that either side can do to the other to gain a small edge in certain situations. No solutions without problems, that's why no simple fixes. As an experiment, I offered to make ammo boxes 100% passable (including by bullets) but it was rejected by poll.
pickled might sound more confident, he still is wrong. gas stealing would be placing a refinary on the ref spot yourself while the so called manner pylon doesnt have anything to do with it. if then its walling of a refinary so you cant access it unless you deconstructed the wall. anyway, both of these strategies can be countered by simply destroying the object of annoyance - which is impossible with ammocrates ... pickled might be loud, but he isnt always right
Secret surprise poll has only 6 votes. I recommend that the poll be part of a new thread instead of stuck into a thread that many people are waaay tired of looking at.
