The update is not an update in a traditional sense (moving from ep1 engine to orange box engine). Essentially, the devs had to nearly rebuild the mod to 'update' it to the new engine.
don't look at it as an expansion pack, its more like a total remake, a "replacement" just as peter jackson's king kong is a remake from King Kong from 1933, he took the original story, looked the old film a couple of times (a whole lot of times as i believe) and basically remade it from the ground up

When I first played a full match in 2.2, I felt like a n00b again. Its kind of a shock to lose nearly all of your skill at a game overnight.
i still suck just as bad as i used to on 2.1, but i never played this game to be first on the scoreboard anyway
