Out of total boredom and since Megel made the Beast,
I wanted to make an equivalent Super Tank for BE.
I found the American T-28 Supertank being a good counter in size and overall awesomeness and
even knowing that both tanks might never end up ingame,
I started making it in 3ds max 2010.

I ended up having huge problems getting the shape of the front right,
the hatches have a weird round foundation in the tank hull
and the blueprints I found for it are conflicting.

If things go well next week, I won't have anymore freetime to waste my time on this thing,
so I release what I got so far to everyone in the community that wants to put work into it.

Obviously, this is a cool concept to use and stuff, but the main purpose of the Beast wasn't to be another tank, like SUPER HEAVY tank, but to simply replace the existing Heavy for NF. Just throwing that out there.

Oh, lol, I wasn't aware of that. Would be nice if there was a list of models to be replaced/optimized. So people can do some prototyping and actually contribute :).
Looking at the current models ,like the BE heavy , they don't seem to be a ton of work, from the pure modeling point of view.

EDIT: this could still be a giant arty replacement (even though that would be totally unneeded atm) or a huge heavy APC :|ove:

Actually the Beast was to be a super heavy. But after I stopped development for Empires it seemed to make sense to use it as a replacement for the existing heavy rather than creating a new class of tank.

No matter what Mootant saz, I still believe the tracked tanks drive like Hovercrafts and therefore I think we should remodel them to LCAC's with cannons for Brenodi

    and crazy vehicles like Objekt_279

@DonMegel: Do you have any suggestions for other Tanks/vehicles to take partial reference from for general BE/NF looks?

Speaking of NF heavy/medium tank replacements. Im super sorry but I dont have the time to finish that model. I didnt work on it for more than a month cause of study/university. So befor it gets lost like the old models I post it here.

@Mayama: Max 2010 saz: File open failed for your model. What version did you use?

thank you, but I already had that (also included in shitty references DL). And that blueprint is horrible.

ATM I'm downloading BF1942: Secret weapons of WWII, just because they have a T-28 in there, somewhere. What genius designed those round hatches with beveled edges right next to them that go over into slopes all around? I haven't seen something like that on any other tank so far. I even wounder how they build that on the two real tanks that where produced, cast iron maybe, but cast iron sucks for armor. :/

cast iron is actually a really common way to construct these things

nearly all the russian tanks used in ww2 had cast turrets

lol, from what I know by working in the commercial vehicle sector, cast iron doesn't deform, but just breaks into pieces when hit hard enough. Maybe it heavily depends on the iron mixture. Looking for a "cast vertex selection" button now :)

yes it did that. when tanks got hit hard enought the inside of the armor broke into pieces and killed everyone inside ...

Yeah but if the tank gets hit that hard it doesn't matter if your tank is brittle or malleable it's out of commission.

well its the reason why they invented composite armor and the interior of tanks has protection against shrapnel (kevlar)

Whilst that was originally true, we needed an NF heavy replacement more than we needed an extra tank on top of the NF heavy, so regardless of whatever was intended, until we got a new NF heavy anyway, that's where the Beast was pretty much going. Oh, and not to mention we'd have needed a BE Super Heavy counterpart.

hey can the creator (or present modeler) of the beast like hand it off to someone else? I mean that thing is a beast, it would be epic if it was in.

i doubt its anywhere near done-ish

consider a high res model like a 3d concept art

Yeah, look at those shinny renders and then open up an existing empires tank from modelsrc.
The difference may be x-bazillion polys/vertices (whatever counts).
So there is still a lot of work left, when you are done with a basic high ploy 3d model:

-decide what detail is important and what not
-remove stuff that no one will ever notice ingame (like super rounded egdes)
    -proper scaling
-creating a texture (probably the biggest part)
-adding bones 'n shit (I still have no clue how one does that)
-look at it ingame for the first time and kill yourself because it is completely different from what you started with.
    -...
