If i am listing to any media player, it will pause my music, i need to tab out and press play. This happens on every map change.

If i use vlc, it wont stop the music, it will just change the volume to about 1/4th of what it was.

any ideas what the deal is?

Always has. Does it with every source game. I'm lucky enough to have a play button on my keyboard.

The changing volume thing can be disabled by right clicking the sound icon in your tray, clicking playback devices, then the communications tab, and select do nothing.

Winamp pro doesn't get affected by this.
    neither does the normal version.

It's because WMP is windows based. It's a feature technically, not a bug, and one I'm actually quite appreciative of. There is a setting somewhere to fix it, but it's hidden away in the giant wmp options menu.

The current/latest version of wmp has been good enough for me to not bother using any other media player for music. I still use Media Player Classic for HD tv/film stuff though.

I've never had this problem with WMP, but i too have a full volume/equilizing crap on my keyboard as well, so i might not notice it, just so used to chaning volume or adding more bass as i play

iTunes is a fucking resource whore. Apple devs can't optimize for Windows to save their lives.

Go to Control Panel, select Hardware & Sound, Manage Audio Devices, click "Communications" tab and select "Do Nothing".

    WMP: Has integration with Windows.

Zune: Has integration with Windows, to a degree.

iTunes and other 3PD media players do not. Gee, might that explain why? I'd rather have a configurable feature than none at all.
