I started thinking about this a few days ago, and I wondered what you guys would think of it. A long time ago, back in 2.12, I installed a stats plugin on the Training Server (then, the #1 server). I started getting reports of "kill whoring", and my admin team begged me to take it off. Do you guys think global stats will be good? Will people mess up game play trying to get their rank up?
Depends. Rank-whores will always happen if stats have rankings or kill/death ratios or some other comparable stat. Plus they'll spam the 'rank' and 'kdr' commands. If you're talking about impersonal stats that aren't specific to any player, such as per-map stats and global averages, it'll be a statisticians dream but everyone else will just ignore it until they want to suggest that homing missiles "r t3h s00k".
Track stats based upon teams. It can be used to correct or adjust weapons and such. NF wins 80% of maps would be a great stat to know as a dev.
as long as the stats is uncapable of displaying stats of a individual player its all goodie. But devs, whatever happens... dont make this into a stats whoring game. This is about teamwork and tactics. hell taking out that apc pouring out infantry can give me a kill + a bonus point for being a veichle.... but putting myself down with a HMG and wasting all the infantry pouring out and camp could give me 5 times as much score, yet the apc remains along with the spawning infantry which will push through. Now while option #2 would give me better score, the GOOD thing to do in terms of winning the game would be option #1. Now this is just a tiny example, but if you sit down for a few min you will soon realise just how crazy the ammount of similiar scenarios that excist. if you wish to keep stats tracking in terms of Class X with gear setup Y or something like that its all fine... just make sure it doesnt go down on a personal level.
I agree with Zeke, no personal KDR stats, It will just encourage Rambo behavior. To be more useful for the mod, track weapon statistics linked to class; i e, "BE rifleman with carbine killed NF Rifleman with SMG2" With enough data like that the dev's would be able to find out if there are any major weapon balancing issues.
maybe a kind of stats that formulates whatever you have in a few lines to describe your type of playing if you command a certain percentage of your games, it says you have a natural talent for leadership for example
Based on playing Joint Operations, it will mess up game play a little if lone wulfs can get their hands on a good sniper rifle. They'll just spawn r*pe to get their ranks up. I think it will get bad if rankings start to have in game benefits like instant squad leader or something. EDIT: In other words if players get 'achievements' or bennies for having high kill ratios. On the other hand, the ability to auto-balance by rankings will probably improve game play.

it WOULD be promoting team play if you would make people gain stats at the end of the match on how good the team as a whole is (so at the end of the game your whole team gets the same points added to there personal stats) and as i said before, a couple of fields integrated, like squads sticking together, commander orders followed up, tanks built versus enemy tanks destroyed, total resource income etc etc etc
Personal stats like kills to deaths ratio won't be available. (Even though we might store it internally)
Statistics would be invaluable to weapon balance (infantry and vehicle) and map balance. I don't care about individual stat tracking, but knowing how often weapons are used, how much dmg they do on avg, avg kills etc would be fantastic.
