    Yeah.

Whenever a new player tries to opt-in, this is what he gets, in the form of a blue menu. This blue menu has some text in it describing what a commander is, and that he (the player) is heavily advised to get to know the tech tree.

Then at the bottom, a big disclaimer stating that failure to command competently will usually get you booted from the comm chair, and losing the game.

Turns off when you enter the CV the first time. Never shows again except for client updates (2.24->2.25).

I don't think this community deserves such a function.
With all the less-than-serious gameplay that exists in Empires, the soldiers shouldn't be so anal about a new commander. It's not that hard to kick the comm. It's not that hard to understand that a noob comm will be very confused, and hence probably not want to be a comm. And it's not that hard to tell him what to do, since we all can see what research he is doing in 2.25.
Suggestion isn't bad per-se, since the new gameplay tips are actually helpful, but how often do noobs command? And how often do real dumb people read any kind of manual?

It is hard to kick the comm. Newbies are easier but half-newbies who can't command at all are practically impossible to kick.

haha get into the CV for the frist time, get beaten to death by a giant wall of text ...

but anyway, its still like commanding isnt really like a position people want to have - its often enought just a job that someone does because everyone else refuses to. especially if theres lots of well known players on the opposite team

A: Vets don't know if the guy knows what he's doing or not, usually.

B: The guy doesn't know who's good and who isn't.

C: The guy doesn't know that he doesn't, 'need' to opt-in.

D: Odds are the guy doesn't know how to exit/reenter comm review.

E: Odds are the vets are too busying buttfucking eachother that they're going to be too proud to help (Seriously. I've watched clanners just say, "Comm's a noob, F S SPACE").

well if those guys usually would be responsive in anyway you could actually teach them anything. but a responsive newbie is the exception of a rule.
i assume most of the time they are just too scared to even type anything tho. ofc thats mainly because if it takes two seconds instead of one to drop a ref they get bitched on by half the team (and often by guys that just got out of that getting bitched on stage)

yeh well, i guess sociologists would have lots of fun studying empires ...

Besides, they'd have 30+ seconds for the menu to be read. It's not like they're in the middle of combat then OMGWTFBBQLOL menu comes up.

Sounds like a good suggestion, i also noticed that people have a difficulty to understand what opt-in and opt-out means, especially non-native speakers. Those buttons should be renamed "nominate" and "cancel nomination".

Well nominate kind of insinuates that you can nominate other people, rite?

Opt-In and Opt-Out are good enough, I think. I can't think of any common word to replace those.

If you are tired of seeing the paperclip, you are a retard who doesn't know how to disable it, and hence deserve it.
Comm tooltips, and friendliness of other players is needed. This community is probably the worst of all when it comes to being noob-friendly.
