To make aircrafts usefull you would have to make it very powerfull. That would turn aircrafts into something like "squad arty strike, spam machines". If you make it not so powerfull you end up with units that nobody will resarch because tanks are better. As we all know in empires only the best will be researched. You cant concentrate on the mobility either because a flying spawnpoint would render almost everything obsolete ingame and its a invitation to a ninja rax farm. If you make aircrafts powerfull and AA too you will end up with giving the infantry/tanks the only purpose of destroying the AA for the planes. Means 80% of the game has only the purpose to destroy the AA. If you make AA a really strong counter against aircrafts you dont need aircrafts at all you can win the game with tanks and infantry only and we all know in a standart empires game (or any rts/fps that aim in the same direction) theirs no time for fancy gimmick research. I assume that aircrafts are only available at midgame where the fronts are clear. After the early game vehicle firepower > mobility. The slow advancing team with superior firepower usually wins against the fast and pushing. So if you want to give aircrafts alot of firepower it ends with just having "better tanks" if you dont make it better only more mobile it has no use at all (beside ninja apc like attacks but thats something that is usually made by a team that would win anyway.)
aircraft could be made "a better apc" and such also, giving most aircraft some decent anti tank capabilities but weak against infantry would balance it out pretty nice
Better apc means the game can be decided by some guys ninjaing the hell out of the enemy with one flying apc. If infantry can counter aircrafts easily than you dont need aircrafts at all. You only need infantry and tanks to win the game.
I want submarines like in red alert 1 so the enemy has to searchfor 5 hours to kill me and end the game :D
the problem would be that a bit of infantry with lots of tanks < a bit of tanks and lots of airplanes also yea, "some guys" always end the game, but then again turrets should in all forms stay an "allround" automated defence dont want drop ships in your base? put some bloody turrets...
