Hostile intent, an old HL1 mod did prone very well. BF2 does not.

-getting into and out of prone is a static action during which you cannot fire or move
-in prone, your horisontal curser movement speed has a limit, so you cannot spin around
-in prone, you cannot aim higher than 45 degrees. i.e, not strait up.

these things are realistic and really make prone feel real. i hope we don't just get another cartoony BattleFeild prone clone... :)

These ideas seem reasonable, and make prone more of a tradeoff.

I think if you really need you should be able to fire up, as you could roll, but whether thar would be possible to code I don't know

You should be able to slowly go beyond the horizontal turn limit... slowly.

I always thought bf42's prone wasn't bad. Even with the bf2 prone, the only problem is really that it doesn't roll your camera when your character roles. Limiting turning when prone is just an extra impediment. And as I recall, your view angle is limited when prone in the bf series...

no, plz dont impeded turning for prone, unless your just impeding it after you turn 90 degrees either way (didnt read first post :/ )

lol can you imagine your view spinning everytime you prone? there would be a surge of

    being bought.

when you prone while standing still, it should take a little longer because it hurts do drop straight down w/o moving.
if your moving forward, you should dive.
if your moving sideways, you should roll.
if your moving backwards, you should do a cartwheel.

getting up should take some time maybe, but I don't know how many times I've dived wearing full kit.

Once i dived into a rabbit's den. It hurt

Many games have a sort of a "dive" feature with the prone key. It's when you run forwards, jump, and then press prone. You then land on your stomach. All BF games have it, I think.

BULLSHIT on the realistic part! :D Getting in or out of prone is no f-ing static action in real life! Hell you're usually already taking running steps when you're half way up. And who the hell is going to prevent you from turning a bit and aiming straight up when you're on your stomach? Besides what I've always hated about DoD is that someone takes away your gun while you're getting up from the ground as if you couldn't swing it one handed or something. Nothing prevents you from aiming or firing while getting up or diving in the ground! Of course it won't be pin point accuracy, but still nothing prevents you from doing it. Hell, the only thing I agree with you on that list is that you can't spin around on your stomach while you're prone.

Sorry about the rant, but all this bullshit about "realism" makes my blood boil. Almost all of those limitations are ARTIFICIAL and have little to none to do with the real world.

You are right Wereaser. Now that I think about it, any time I played airsoft, I can't remember stopping, lowering myself down slowly, and not being able to use my weapon, to go prone. I get down in half a second and I could use my weapon at any point during that time. If a soldier really is so lazy that he has to put away his gun and stop moving in order to prone, he should be some truck driver instead. I'd raise an eyebrow to an army which's soldiers would be so slow with full equipment.

Depending on your playstyle, that could be argued.

not lowering yourself down or anything, and it wouldn't be slow. however, it's not just a dive and then instantly shooting. if you do do a dive (jump + prone button), then your crosshair should go huge, and slowly retract down to usual size.

yeah, cause you could hit your elbow and that would hurt alot. I don't think accuracy would be very good after that. Good point sandy
