It's but a slightly different package. The spec differences are 1TB HDD 9GB DDR3 ATI Radeon 4850 1GB For only $1,500 CAD at Costco. I honestly think there must be some shitty POS hardware in there somewhere because this price is unbelievably low for this hardware. I refuse to believe this is so cheap Also, lol, it says it weighs less in its box
I guess you can build that pc, for about 800-1000€ on your own. The only thing I have no idea about is the i7, that should be the most expensive part in this pc. And well its stupid to stuff an i7 in and then only a 4850. It should have a 4870 x2 or the upcomming (?) 4890 x2.
For me, thats a godsend. I do tons of multimedia editing on my laptop, and this would drastically speed up the final compilation time by doing it on that. That's in Euro's, so thats the same price in Canadian dollars, if not more.
But it's orange D: I orange :D Also, remember, theres more to this PC then specs. 2 hot-swappable drive bays accessed externally. Thats great for me. I can't recall the last time I saw this sort of thing that was HP's stupidly limited media bay in such a good package.
Costco always got good prices on shit. The only catch is you need to be a member there and pay like a monthly or yearly fee I think.
My mom has that membership. I stood there staring at it. I nearly opened the case to check out the cooling system (the last thing I want is a overpowered-undercooled system)
9GB of proper DDR3 would cost as much as that whole pc. It says 3gb of DDR3 for me: Memory 3072MB DDR3 1066MHz Three Channel Memory (3-1024MB modules) thats 3*1024, brandless and only at 1066, for the record, thats almost the slowest it can go for ddr3. (800 would be the slowest) Everything seems brandless except the processor, I wouldn't buy this, better off putting the parts together yourself. Mobo isn't branded, so it could be the cheapest x58 mobo around, hard drive isn't branded and 750gb doesn't cost anything nowadays. Brandless 500watt power supply, you dont know what ratings it has and whether it's certified. Multi readers cost what, 30 euros? That isn't worth anything. Audio? Onboard Pheripherals: Crap. The catch is it's complete crap and will most likely cause you major headaches in the near future. Want the best bang for your buck? Look at this: AMD Phenom II X4 940 Foxconn A7DA-S OCZ Platinum ddr2 1066 4gb Sapphire HD 4870 X2 Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB Cooler Master 600W modular total $992.95 Thats some heavy quantities of win and cheap right there. Pick a nice case, cpu cooler, keyboard and mouse, monitor, headset and burner and you're all set to raep.
Got to agree with Dizzy. Go for quality over quantity. Pretty much all of the computers I've built have cost roughly 1000 USD and been able to run the latest games/software for about 3 years. The computer I built five years ago is being used as my work computer because it can still run many software programs (though not many of the latest games). IMO its nearly always better (and cheaper) to build your own computer from parts hand-picked for quality.
@dizzyone: read the 3 listed changes in the OP, the PC at Costco is the FX6800-01H, a different model with a 1TB HDD, 9GB ram, and a 1GB 4850. While I agree with all your points, the 2 hot-swappable external-access SATA drive bays make all the difference for me. I do a shit-load of multimedia for my school itself and assignments. Unless I can find a case to do that, I'm screwed. Also, I'd rather get all this in a single store because it is much more affordable for me. My mom works for Cogeco, a Canadian cable company, and they have a program for employees where the employee gets a price quote for the hardware, brings it in for approval, Cogeco cuts the check to pay for it. ~$100 is taken off each paycheck for the next year or two, no interest or anything on top of what the hardware cost. It's essentially an awesome loan for buying PC's where you pay no interest. It's the only way I can afford such an expensive PC in the foreseeable future.
The 4850 is good enough to run empires with 1920x1200 (AA and full details) and allways 50+ fps. And right now Nvidia graphic cards have a worse cost/performance/power consumption ratio. But 900€ for the system is not very cheap.
Did my computer cost like 1000€ and I have: Intel Q9550 processor (Quad core @ 2,8GHz) Nvidia GTX 280 1GB Asus P5Q Deluxe Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Corsair XMS2 Some SATA HD which manufactor I can't remember. 1TB External HD. Chassis And finally the processor cooler. It is possible if you know where to buy.
i built myself a p35 platinum / intel quad core / asus en8800gt 1gb rack once for 750€ good times, i love to budget
