I played Empires back in the day, like 2005-2006, and I saw it on steam and decided to try and play it again. Whats changed since the days of old? Are there more players now that you guys are on steamworks?
Funny guy. No seriously, Im about to play, whats been changed? EDIT: What the fuck happened to the rifles, I'm getting torn up.
Just play ffs, it's already a different game after 5 years and you are expecting us to tell ya what's changed?
No, I had just assumed that not much had changed, since development was sort of stagnating when I left. You're right though, its a whole new game. I fucking love what Empires has become, and I'll be playing to see all the changes.
I'd love to tell you the major changes, but 2006 is a hell of a long time ago. I don't remember that well how it was back then tbh. Actually you are the one who should play it now and make a list of major changes for us
the development sort of stagnates all the time, but once in a while a new coder comes in and pumps out like 3 versions consecutively, and they all differ a lot, so that's why you are being torn up by rifles, because that was the latest tangent the devs went on.
Try it After 20 pages of reading "added x" "added y" ... "fixed x" "removed y" ... "really fixed x " "readded y" ... "removed x" You have no clue what actually changed. Most stuff in the changelogs are stuff like "increased bear accuracy with 10%" etc ... which doesn't tell you anything. To compare 5 years of development you need something like "riflemen now own infantry", "engies should try to stay out of firefights", etc You don't get these impressions from just reading all changelogs.
it still shows new features, u usually cant do anything with "buffed x from y to y+1" anyway unless you play 24/7
Main differences between since 4 or 5 years are here: Some maps look prettier Performance is not as good as it was Some exploits and bugs were removed Some other bugs have occured Mortar can't shoot if previous shell hasn't landed, which is why it needed a speed buff.. So it's faster the closer you shoot with it (?) Targets were removed until they are reworked (?) Command Vehicle is not at all as fragile as it was Mines do half damage if set off by another mine making mine stacking less effective That's all I can remember
I was going to say... that maybe all that's new, really new to the game is wages. Aside from that, I can't really think of much. Oh and people. We gots people now we released on steam...no idea how long that'll last, but here's crossing my fingers.
The game is fairly similar. Mortar, overall, does less damage now. Rifles are like they were 2 years ago. The game lags much less than it did 5 years ago. Wages were added. Targets removed. Buildings autospot in a certain radius around them. No more placing turrets on the walls or ceilings
for a moment brenodi had a burst rifle to replace the BEAR, but then they all went back to their respective names and nature, also both teams had mkII's, which were lights/afvs that could hold either a 2slot missile or a 2slot cannon and they were researched with upgraded chassis but then they were taken out quickly. they also took out 9mining for a bit then put it back in, except mines do jack shit against buildings now. also they took out armor plates for jeeps.
