Neither team should have an inherent advantage over the other early game. EVAR. It just creates too many balance problems. Let the real differences between the teams show up late in the game.
Off-topic, but if anyone ever played that Quake Engine mod/game Tremulous (Aliens vs Humans, sort of like Natural Selection) its kind of laughable how identical the situations are. Aliens have a massive advantage early game Humans have a brief period mid game where they have to win the match Aliens have an enormously strong late game Almost everyone agreed that the Aliens were unbeatable early and late game. But because of that brief period in the middle of the game (which wasn't easy to get to, considering how sucky Humans were at match start) where Humans held an advantage and could win, the devs said it was fine and left it alone. No one plays Tremulous anymore If you want to have diverse factions, its very tricky to give one team an early game advantage. Usually, that's the most important part of the game. It would be better to have a sort of Balanced/NF/BE scenario for early/middle/late, or even a NF/BE/Balanced.
that's even more than empires, goddamn AND tremulous IS more unbalanced, because ONE side IS inferior, but unlike Empires, that one side CAN win if played correctly, even if its always on the knife's edge between winning and losing (and the other side can lose if played badly) then again, tremulous IS built on kills (letting the other team kill you is griefing) for advancement, maybe empires can go that way

I always thought that if I completely failed in my life I could become an announcer for those people that snap and go postal. All they would have to do is give me some cash and a date and time. Then I'll ask him to wear a portable camera so I can follow his progress around. I'll then sit in my cool van and play the according sounds to his spree through the speakers on my van. "FIRST BLOOD." I hope none of you two ever has children. Glycencity is unwinable as BE now. The LT can hide behind the snow, but the BE vehicles cannot. This is a serious disadvantage, specially as the BE cannot get better vehicles at all.
I've come to a new conclusion on how to balance Empires. Remove NF/BE team selection and force auto-join. I'm dead serious. 50% of perceived 'balance' problems evaporate instantly. Team stacking is killing this game, and driving away new players.
