People keep saying that they hate these 2 maps. Some comments I have heard are, "Man, these are crap maps". I have yet to get a reason back from these people. If you are one of these people, then please give, in your own words, about 3 sentences worth of why you think said map is rubbish and how you think it should be improved. Lack of FPS is not a valid reason.
Dune is duststorm + , but with even more sniping scouts, theres basically no cover on this map. I actually like temple even if its kinda small
Ive spectated temple alot cause I made it and the problem with both maps is, like with any empires map that you need to memorize the map and play in a specific way to be successfull. That works with the official maps because there are always people that can tell new players how to play them "right". But if you throw a new map in the maprotation people fell helpless cause they have no clue what they should do. Ive seen commanders on both maps running completly confused around the map and doing nothing, not even placing refs cause they feard to do something wrong. Most time those irrational insults like "your map sucks" are from people that lost on the map. Thats a childish behavior that you can see on any custom map cause some people aways need someone to blame for their incompetence.
Dune could use a little more cover and some more places that are flat enough to easily toss buildings. I like it though, especially how theres all kinds of hills and terrain, so your not just fighting on a square with ref points.
Temple is small and there is only two bases. It also has weird ref points and the fog is super heavy.
Whats weird about the ref points, they work like every other ref point. There are 6 places where you can place a base.
Dune: In the comm view, there are numerous places that look 'flat' but are actually too curved to place buildings. This is frustrating for the comm. I would suggest that you either make such places flat enough to hold a barracks or place objects (rocks, trees, etc) so that a comm doesn't think their is enough flat terrain to place a building. Also, the skybox seems a little low in the elevated areas of the map (such as bottom right and top left).
You can easily destroy the north rax, and most games ive played the team that doesnt control north gets the temple and or the enemy starting base.
Temple is small, and has built in ninja entry points. It's VERY small. And a bit ugly. IT plays poorly. Dune is better, still small, but looks nicer, and tends to play nicer. IT's rare to get past DU though.
the "ninja entry points" are there to make the whole map unsafe so theres no place where you can feel secure and settle down.
See, you're supposed to be allowed to settle down, I shouldn't generally have to worry about ninjas or 20 infantry running through the back out of nowhere.
Yes thats what makes maps like slaughter boring, you just stupidly run into that jokepoint and die til one side breaks through and win. I like maps where you can outsmart the opponent
