Hey, this is just an idea that I had when I was playing a while ago. When you rank up, why not get better guns? I know you get skills but maybe new guns would complement those skills. I have a few examples like: Rifleman - A rifle with AP (armor piercing) rounds. Can damage tanks slightly. Scout - A bigger sniper rifle or Detonation charges. Engineer - A welder or Field medicine kit. Grenadier - Remote control charges (C4) Just some ideas :p I like to have feedback so shovel me load of it.
So far, there are inherent benefits to some classes for ranking up. Scout with hide becomes invisible quicker. Engineer can build more walls. Engineer also gets an additional turret past 40 points.
let's make rank up weapons with different models and cooler sounds but the exact same performance. (and then maybe not tell anyone)
aesthetic weapon changes for ranking up makes leveling up even better. for actually different weapons, dnw.
Or we could make rank-up weapons like Tf2 weapons. They're sidegrades that require a different strategy to use, but they're rarely more effective.
This actually sounds like an interesting way to do infantry research (in my opinion, all research should be like this: you specialize in a way of doing battle, not endlessly researching '+1' weapons, armors and engines)
So maybe different bullet research for the Infantry and then weapons that can actually use it? (Kinda like researching the tank chassis)
so perhaps things like "close combat riflemen equipment" would unlock a shotgun thats good around corners but not over range? just an example to see if i am on the same page her
I like the shotgun idea. Maybe better armor for our riflemen? Headshot would still do crazy damage lol
So basically it makes you tougher to infantry and weaker to tanks, that sounds balanced in infantry vs infa- oh wait no it doesnt.
