Well, it would seem there are alot of computer games with "Empires" in thier title, Age of Empires (1, 2, and 3), Empire Earth, Empires: Dawn of the Modern world, etc. Obviously this can lead to a problem and has been for me when talking about Empires at work with helpless and uniformed customers. So, we need a new name. This thread is only to toss around ideas, no voting, no definantes, no blimps or whales (I mean it, no whales). I'll delete non-sense posts (and you know I will). The name needs to embody the scope of the game, not only now, but down the road is it gets bigger and better. Empires refered to a planet ravaged by war between Empires for millenia, the current conflict between the Brendoni Empire and the Northern Faction is only the most recent. So epic, grand, tragic, apocolyptic if you will. Be imaginative.

Lets change the name and trick people into trying our mod. They'll have no idea what they're really playing is that crappy, buggy Empires mod :-P j/k But i personally don't see anything wrong with the name.
Oooo, i just came up with one: How about Star Wars: Knights of the Older Republic We'll just say that this is taking place before blasters were invented and before the force was discovered. That way, we'd lure in a bunch of star wars fanatics who, despite how bad or buggy the game might be, would play it. Heck, this mod could probably be one of the best star wars games ever released. I can just see the opening screen:... A much longer time ago in a galaxy much further away...
Empires rocks. I don't think we need a name change. If people decided the name "DOOM!" sucked and never played it because of that, then the FPS market would be worth jack right now. HEIL EMPIRES!
I took it from the name of the war that's being fought... If I read the backstory right =o Oh, and empire at war is already a game so prolly won't do well on it's own =P

I fail to see how that's sci-fi. 'Ancient Hatred', erm, 'Desperate Insurgency', 'The Begining of something larger'. Know what, Empires may not be original, but anything else seems too specific. I don't like the name, but it's fine.
Yall are makeing things too spacific, Im thinking a single word or two that carries meaning like "Dawn" or "Eternal Fire" or "Flame" or "Unyeilding Lust for Blood and Power" ...ok maybe not the last one but you get the idea.
ok, I can't emphasise my opinion enough that 'empires' is perfectly fine for the name and that these concerns are nick pickity of possibly the highest degree =/
