Yes, we did it! A half million posts right here on this forum and only 300000 of them are deleted or pure shit. Congratulations gents! And here, since it was deleted the last time, have the pyramid of argumentation AGAIN:
That's less than the latest post IDs, but more than what the forum's post count claims. You can't just say this shit and not explain yourself. I'm dying here, cyberkiller. I can't handle this kind of thing.
Congratulations! I rebuilt some of the counters and the total number of posts on the forum is now 498,467, which just goes to show how bullshit the stats get on a 9 year old forum. The total number of posts is just a counter that gets incremented and decremented instead of being calculated every time. The total posts counter isn't supposed to count deleted posts that are still in the database. When you delete a post you have the option of 'soft' deleting it or physically deleting it. Physically deleted posts would account for the post ID being higher than the number of posts in the database assuming the post ID is just another counter. This is also not going into the issue of orphaned posts and threads. Summary: Total number of posts on the shown on the forum does not include deleted posts. Total number of posts in the database includes 'soft' deleted posts. Post ID would be the count of the number of posts there were ever posted rather than the number of posts currently on the forum.
but let's say i make post 2, then you make 3 and post 2 gets deleted, if the id was decreased then we'd just get another post 3 and keeping track of that shit is a lot harder than just incrementing an integer
