When I get home from work I'll get right on that :D Im sure I can find some horns with Public Domain L's.. and if not I'll just take my condenser out in the field and get some
Well, again, we need to coordinate this. Alternatively we 3 all can make full sound sets and then time of 2 people will be wasted. What happened, noone was up to do it for months already and when I said I'll do it, suddenly everyone says he will do it as well. Lets do it together.
well I thought you said you couldnt find any sounds that were legal to use... But if you got some or can get some then thats cool
Ok, got the formats, we can roll. I wonder if the current echos are generated by the Source engine, or do I have to make it? (PMing Angry again) I have an exam on friday. Sounds should be ready for monday.
yeah the reverb is created in game.. haha I would know because I use to stand at a certain point of a map where it echos and just say TAKE COVARRR over and over
So I haven't replied in this thread, when your work hands out hours like it was free candy then you don't have much free time. Send away and I'll assemble them, dunno bout coding but I will get them set up, structured and mastered.
This is hard. Multi-tone air horn loops badly, because wave lengths of all tones must meet in the one place twice, and this is rare, so it's almost impossible to make it sound nice. Alternate solution would be to just play all the sounds and let the game take care about the rest, but I guess performance of this solution would be terribly low. I've made a BE Heavy tank horn (electric, the middle-loop 17,5ms). I thnik I shouldn't post public samples: they have no echo and they sound badly It would sound cool ingame, but the sample itself fails. Maby Angry has an idea how to solve those problems. I also must say that making a single sample can take like 2 hours, so I encourage guys that said that they can help get some sounds to do it. NF sounds should be air-horns, BE should be electric, but BE CV could have a 5-tunes air-horn or something like a ship siren.
http://www.therecordist.com/assets/sound/mp3/ferry_horn.mp3 this one is good too (but that is all usable material from this site). The thing with air horns is that they have a long begining, we need to consult Angry about how to cut it properly.
I have 2 messages, one good and one bad. good cutting the sound doesn't involve finding a extreamly short loop, because the looping sound can be stopped by the game engine. That means I can cut the sounds much faster than I expected. bad I fail at creating sounds. It just doesn't sound like horn. My speakers are... high-end, when I play the sound on them it sounds really cool, but I can only imagine what is it when played on normal speakers. The bottom line is that I can help cutting sounds, but I cannot make new sounds. If someone finds a good free sound or modifies a good free sound so it still sounds like a horn, I can cut it. Remember it has to have a begining and the end, but no echo is allowed.
Owned. (Besides: I want teh damn whistles myself!! EEEeeeeew-BOOOM!) As for last Reef's post... shit, dude, You should've worked with ORDINARY HUMAN's gear (and I'd prefer You used a headphones [NOT made by the company we like]). You got us FAIL. I think I have a solution, though. THE HORNS JUST DON'T GET LOOPED! Let them die out. EEEEEEE-eeeee... Few seconds max. It will suffice. I'm riding a jeep and I see one engineer going the same direction. "Honk-honk" = "hop in". Useful and simple. No need to overpower horns so they kill the enemies because of the mere soundwave which explodes their skulls.
