The gripen is cheap as fuck but would still last longer than the F18 Super Hornet. We already have F18's so we would still be able to land in a bunch of U.S military bases and use their aircraft carriers. Dassault was not able to guarantee 100% operational capability of the Rafale in arctic weather. Not sure if this has changed recently.
