Alright, I've just seen Black Hawk Down, one of my favorites actually, besides a lot of shootout, I'm getting this question: What is wars good for? But let's not talk about that atm (The thread will go offtopic anyway). So, what movie is your favorite Warmovie? And sorry pals, Empires Trailer doesn't count.
FMJ is only good for a few scenes. The movie as a whole has good camera work, but a shitty script. The best scenes involve R Lee Ermy screaming at Gomer Pyle ("ARE YOU QUITTING ON ME? WELL ARE YOU? THEN QUIT YOU SLIMY FUCKING WALRUS LOOKING PIECE OF SHIT!") and other funny things (like the gunner in the chopper...) I like Apocalypse Now, I prefer the original version...redux has a REALLY boring scene at a French rubber plantation... But Fav movie? Jeez...I'd prob say Black Hawk Down...but We Were Soldiers...Once, and Young...but that's the book title :p and Saving Private Ryan is also in there...and of course a Bridge Too Far is pretty high on my list as well. On a note of movies that aren't meant to be true to history, Where Eagles Dare is REALLY high on my list...
Apocalypse Now, no question. No other war movie has presented such a disturbing psychological depiction of war.
indeed Apocalypse Now. Other nice ones have been mentioned. Its old and It have been many years since I saw it, but I remember The "Cross of Iron" as good. The few action scenes of Rules of engagement are pretty good.
will i get banned for dareing to say Apocalypse Now was boring? I mean the start was good, but after the surfing the movie got really boring, nad it was a chore to watch :D I can't think of my favourite war movie because i've seen so many, acutally i can't think of any war movie that springs to mind so im gonna have to say black hawk down is one of my favourites
Apocalypse Now isn't an action movie. You lose for thinking it was. You probably didn't notice the humor in the fact that Willard was reading a letter from Kurtz about how soldiers are lazy and sit around eating candy bars....and while reading, Willard was.....eating a candy bar!
We're going to see Apocalypse now in school after the vacation, 4 hours of no classes, and such a good movie.
"CLIDE!!! KEEP SHOOTING CLIDE!!!" Band of Brothers. I watched the entire thing in one day when I was sick at home with the bass all the way up. I think I ended up in shell shock afterwards.
Best scene in the movie is the bridge that is built every day, and then blown up again every night. That whole scene is hilarious. The entire movie is really well done, but not my favorite war movie of all time. I like the scene where they fly in with Wagner's "Ride of Valkyries" playing and Duvall's napalm quote...but that scene is just too overplayed. Too many people see that, go nuts, and then get bored once it is over. Apoc Now is just NOT a war movie in the sense of portraying a war, it portrays hypocrisy, the pointless nature of war etc. It follows Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" closely. Bridge Over the River Kwai is another good movie.
Yeah I personally think Band of Brothers is THE war movie to see if you have about ten and a half hours of time to watch it. Entire movie is excellent. Great acting, great directors, scripts, and the fact that it's all based on a true story makes it that much better. Definitely a must-see.
I loved the medic segment in Band of Brothers. Im suprised how humerous it actually was in some parts. (The "insert military position" captian or whatever tells medics its all clear to pass through, than gets hit by a sniper's ricochet. It makes me laugh every time x.x.)
That was Lieutenant Winters (I believe he was 1st Lieutenant at that point) That's the assault into Carentan if I'm not mistaken. Band of Brothers Certainly was fantastic. Jarhead is one of my favourite war movies. I've heard people complain they don't like it because there was no action. I scratch my head at those people.
