I'm tired of morons wasting tickets respawning or driving failtanks into minefields and just people doing stupid shit because they don't know certain players have certain skills. To alleviate the grief, I suggest adding 'vital skill' icons next to players' names. What is a vital skill? A vital skill is one that greatly enhances the effectiveness of a player's usefulness to the team. Such skills include revive, defusal, enhanced senses, armor detection, etc. Knowing which players have these skills coupled with some communication, a team can become many times more effective and players can be less god damned retarded.
So you want an icon to appear that shows what skill(s) people have? Well, if they gain a score of 40, will 4 different icons appear next to their name?
If it's one of the important skills, it should show up, so that'd be up to 4 if a class has that many. However, I figure stuff should be highlighted/emphasized in certain contexts. Like, if you see an engineer, he'll have an icon indicating that he has revive if he does, but if you're dead, you should see an especially noticeable icon like big green (+) above a friendly engineer's head. If you're in a vehicle, you'd see if it's protected by defusal with some sort of anti-mine icon or "DFSL"/"M-OK"/etc. If you're in arty, you'd see an artillery feedback icon if they had the skill. Stuff like that.
But every skill is more or less usefull in some situations. If your are thinking about over head icons, then this might get to crowded. I would like more the see that squad members can see the skills of their squad. Just add small icons on the upper left between name and health points.
Sounds good...not sure where you want it - on mouse-over placement? Like a few icons underneath the name in circles?
Yeah, it'd be sort of like the Need Ammo/Need Heal/Need Revive icons, but near the name and not as large unless specific circumstances occur.
I like it, the skills I think should be highlighted are: Defusal Revive Repair Upgrade and perhaps turret upgrade.
You only need to show the ones that can directly influence you. So, stuff like artillery feedback doesn't need to be proclaimed, as useful as it is. However, Revive, Defusal, Repair/Healing Upgrade can really influence how people play around you. Good idea.
Key skills: Defusal, Revive. In the com view, there is a bit of room when a player is slected, why not show there full skills there?
I don't see why most of you seem to want gameplay to be so narrowed. In adding the other skills so players are aware others have them, you're making them inherently more useful than they ever were.
It would be nice if each time you unlocked a skill it would pick one for you and let you change them when you want. Cause I still after playing emp for like 4-5 years forget to set my skills.
This could take the looks of model attachments. Melee upgrade: brass knuckles. Extra ammo: big bags/pockets for ammo, or bandolier. Enhanced senses: big mickey-mouse radar ears on helmet, etc. Accuracy upgrade: Robin Hood hat (no but something similar, like ocular implants) Health and regen: some kind of pulsing veins, etc. Defusal: minesweeper/metal detector strapped to back. Arty feedback: big radio on shoulder. Vehicle armor: visible on vehicle, it has extra armor plates bolted on. Dig in: a shovel.
