well my friend is havign this problem..he was playing the game fine then he changed it over to widescreen and it crashed...now everytime he loads up the main menu it crashes the game....he has uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and he cant change the screen back to regular can someone plz help?
Wait, how is this a vista problem? Delete all the empires files (this is what you meant by uninstall right?) Go into Source SDK base (run it as you would a game) Change your resolution in there to whatever you want and quit. Install Empires as you would normally. I'd be interested to see if this works.
We'll do better if we can talk to him directly then - no offense meant. Deleting settings should be sufficient. Can he play other mods fine? Or is this now a problem with all games? Does he have the latest videocard drivers? Does he even have a widescreen?
I'm fairly sure that cetain video settings are saved in the registry. Try deleting this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\empires\Settings
You friend can try adding this to the launch options (Right click on the game & go to properties & select "Set Launch Options") -autoconfig it should return any video setting back to their original default settings that you start out with. Just remember to delete the "-autoconfig" line afterwards if your friend wants to try any other video options.
