One thing that has always bothered me about the vehicle menu is that it is 3-5 pages long to create a vehicle. I started playing with ways to organize it, and have this so far. I need to think of a good way to organize vehicle weapons. I want a simple drop box for each weapon slot and have a second drop box next to it with the group number. The boxes visible would more or less be determined by which vehicle button you press, as would how many plates of armor you can select to put on a vehicle.

One thing that would make this much easier is if we all resigned ourselves to not having double standard weapons on tanks. Only one cannon per cannon slot and only one ml per ML slot. Doing this would make it as simple as having a drop down box for each available weapon slot, and only populating it with the appropriate sized cannons.

what would this accomplish? A single page for customization would be kick ass, and less confusing.

If the concept works, I want to toy around with Pseudo code for how the concept would work.

But it's much more compact and shows more information than the current hud.

well its the easiest way to get it done soon and it would be really great to have that before the steam release.
in the long run though a "single paged" customization menu should be implented. for GUI in general everything should be under the premise "the fewer clicks necessary the better the GUI is"

aren't there still people around that play empires on 800x600 resolution?

forcing this nice UI, would require a raise in minimum screen resolution to play properly. Just my impression.

the gray one with everything on 1 page is 800*600, so it can work on 800*600 resolutions

I used to play on 640x480 and I couldn't reach the 'build' button. I tried editing some files to move the build button a little to the left but with no results. However, 800x600 worked fine.

love the presets being right there as buttons, theoretically you could build a tank with one button and one click?

could this be customized somewhere in options, where you make your fav tanks and name them, and they appear in that box when the requisite stuff is researched?

Theoretically that's already possible. I've never tried personally.

yeah, i know that thing is there, but Ive never used it.

does anyone know if the current system saves preset tank configs from game to game? from one instance of empires to the next?

Blizzerd and I had a short talk about making a window that will have all the buttons and then allow you to make presets and save them to your preset files in your empires folder.

Would be fun to finish, but I don't have much time til next week to even start working on it.
