I was just watching the UT2007 trailer, when I spotted this amazing effect when a jeep spawns: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4290970889366104209#29s I don't suppose this would be possible in the source engine? If a comparable effect could be created, it would be amazing for placing buildings, so rather than just appearing it actually looks like they're materialising. Not a priority, just something else to add to the long wish-list of aesthetics.
Shaders. I think it's possible. Doesn't seem too complex, but does that kind of blue flash thingy fit empires?
maybe....hmm....lets try to think of ways to do it. building "unpacks" its self a la red alert 1 building materiliazes in building slowly expands up, like an antenna i cant think of anymore
Kinda reminds me of how vehicles spawned in C&C:Renegade online. They would warp in & there would be a sort of "magic powder" surrounding the vehicle (as in it was dusty looking & full of twinkling things).
lets just hope these things dont make more people crash after making a tank,, i hate when some noob is just sitting there not moving in a tank,,, only to find out he crashed
MAybe have the buildings sort of 'flash' when they're put? The buildiing animation would have the structure with a very high brightness so it 'flashes' before your eyes.
it would be cool if once tanks are made they get pushed/or rolled out of the vf,, so it doesnt hold up other people
This used to be the case in some pre-released version, but if you built a jeep with a big engine it would spawn going REALLY fast out of the factrory. If you were on top of a hill (isle, canyon) you would fly off into the water. Then if someone was in your way you would just spawn and be thrown into them killing both of you.
haha true,, it just sucks when your being attacked via tanks and some dude is frozen in a tank in your only VF,, cause then you have to wait till the server realizes hes not playing anymore to make another one
I know the feeling. PlanetSide use to be plagued by the same problem until they made vehicles auto-drive (and aircraft auto-fly) off the construction pads upon creation and deconstruct if the driver decided to grief by parking on them. They needed 4 or 5 patches to get it right though
