This happened to me with TF2 before, where steam tries to validate the files before launching, goes from 0% to 100%, closes, and never opens what I want. I've gone into tools and manually validated the Source SDK OB, but to nooo avail. I'm betting it'll go away like it did with TF2, but I wonder if anyone has a clue for fixing it.
Okay I'm having this problem again; it stopped for a while but has come back. Has anyone had this before and is there anything to do about it except curse Steam for being incompetent? Whats interesting is that I opened Empires, but couldn't connect due to "Reliable snapshot overflow", so i rebooted. Now whenever trying to open empires steam tries to validate it and succeeds, but tells me steam servers are too busy and to try again later.
Reliable snapshot overflow means your computer couldn't handle whatever just happened. Or your connection is screwy and your computer received a packet telling it that the server has ten thousand wombats running around. (Naturally, the source engine does not do well with ten thousand wombats.)
I know that, its just odd that it would do that for every server, then after rebooting give me the validation bug thing.
Oh right. Well that didn't help but Steam allowed it to validate for w/e reason and it works for now.
