Ununderstandable patch problems

Well, hope that wasnt postet anywhere else too (couldnt find it )

I have empires at 1.0 it works... well has all the bugs, but it is possible to start listen server and join server.

After installing of the last patch, i wasnt able to create an listen server anymore, if i tried, i went back to menue.

Anyone can help me?

 

tested it, im unable to join any server too.

 

did you install 1.7 THEN 1.71 or just go straight to 1.71?

 

forgot tzo install the hotfix )) looks, like it is working now

i tihnk mabey the download page needs clearer instrucions at the top. waay too many ppl are having this same problem.

 

I think one of the problems is that people download patches from other sites such as moddb, fileplanet, etc. where there are no installation instructions at all. Would it be possible for the installer to check the current version of the mod and notify the user if a previous patch (or a full client) is missing?

 

I don't think so. It's an installer made automagically with help of Valve (documented on wiki). It checks a very simple config file a generates .exe file.

 

Our installer can be customized to check the installation, yes. For the next release, I'll definitely put up a full 1.08 install too.

most of the problem is that people don't bother to read anything !
but i guess the majority of newcommers do read the download page and install it correctly - judging by the amount of "EMP_RECRUITS"

oh and on a side note there - "emp_recuits" don't know there called that !, other wize they would have given themselvs a proper cool name.
so just be understanding when they don't do what you say to them.

On the other hand, there's some people that just keep Emp_Recruit as a way to be an asshole anonymous, and ruin the 'newbie' reputation to 'noob'.
