    Hi All,
As some may be aware both =[BSID]= servers are currently down.

This *may* be related to the recent steam snafu at least only in timing but now i find that while i'm able to launch a server either a remote player connection of a local command line "rcon" (yes i run linux and you can get the source to a actual command called "rcon") and find it simply returns:

    Code:
    [admin@ns srcds]# rcon status
    Couldn't Authenticate
The only material difference i can see on booting the game is that:
    Code:
    Auto detecting CPU
    Using SSE2 Optimised binary.
    Auto-restarting the server on crash
    Updating server using Steam.
    Checking bootstrapper version ...
    [COLOR="Red"]/home/hlds/srcds/srcds_run: line 297:  3084 Segmentation fault      $CMD -game "$GAME"
Sat Dec 16 11:35:24 GMT 2006: Steam Update failed, ignoring.[/COLOR]

    Console initialized.
Attempted to create unknown entity type event_queue_saveload_proxy!
    Game.dll loaded for "Empires"

... and the red line only occurs with the -autoupdate flag, which naturally i've tried without and indeed this error goes away.

From then on it's the usual mani crap (cut for brevity)
    Code:

Then what appears to be the actual loading the Empires mod, again cut for brevity

BTW Note to the empires devs: could we squash these bits of output in the next patch?

Now the finally bit of output does happen until after a good 1-3mins...

    Code:
Connection to Steam servers successful (SU).

... and i have to say i don't recall this output before, infact i recall that output actually showing you the two master steam servers you where connected to.

Anyway all that crap above say, while unlike a "bug" with the game, still bloody annoying that no additional debug info in either the game log file for system logs appear.

I commit this problem to the forum.

this looks like a Valve screw up as it says in the second quote:
    /home/hlds/srcds/srcds_run: line 297: 3084 Segmentation fault

    Suggests it is code related.

I do not know much about this stuff, but afaik there is nothing we can do about it until Valve releases the next bugged fix...

That line can be made to "go away" by removing the "-autoupdate" flag, as mentioned in my post. Which then leaves the output look "ok", or at least doesn't throw any fatal errors.

As only a handful of people play Empires at any one time on the 5~6 servers, our two servers are not a great loss and i guess if this problem doesn't fix it's self it looks like i'll go back to playing Dystopia until aircraft are implemented.

Looks like Valve got over the problem, both BSID servers are back up :)
