hey, i recently tried to command but it failed... but i hear ppl talking about some com menu thing, so how do you enter this menu? thx
You must mean the comm view you get when you hit F2 (default). I advise opening a server of your own and climbing into the CV to learn the buttons. Several members here have written tutorials on commanding here, so dig for those.
Very seriously now, you really should have a read of the manual if you're planning on commanding, and try to listen to what things people research in what situations. The manual is not a wall of text, like my posts, it's very helpful and concise.
Just to give you the heads up, use a microphone if you have one, because no one actually reads anything in the chat in empires, well, besides me and thats it.
Actually, the commander has a significantly difficult time reading, but I have seem comms without mics before
i mean more that the players won't listen to a comm without a mic. being realistic, maybe 3/10 players actually read the chat, while 1/10 would actually give a shit. people give more shit when they can hear the voice.
Quit whining already! We listen every time! I mean, a lot! If we notice, ya know. Em. Ya... AT LEAST WE HAVE LOTS OF FRAGS!
DO NOT COMMAND ANY PUBLIC GAME Hold on and STOP! You first need to COMPLETELY read the manual here! As you read this you also need to spend 2 hours on a private server BY YOURSELF fiddling around with controls, getting a few for ALL commander controls and practice building bases at strategical locations! Once you do all of this AND ONLY THEN can you graduate from being a Empires Commander Recruit and move onto the EMPIRES LEARNING SERVER and be a Empires Commander Cadet there! Command 20 full games as a Commander on the EMPIRES LEARNING SERVER and you will have graduated to basic Competent Empires Commander! Once your finished report in here recruit! DISMISSED!
You don't have stats for that. Use a microphone and repeat orders to make sure all people get it. You can use text but it is ineffective compared to microphone. You can win without it, but only if your team is good enough to pick up the slack and you have good enough commanding skills. But why fight at a disadvantage?
Because I have one of those noobtard-sounding twenty-something voices that is a only glottal fricative short of sounding nasal. You might recognize it by listening to every other person who uses voice and bears an offensively boring accent and sounds like they're probably only slightly intelligent. If I'm going to command, I want to sound like the seventh coming of HELL. That requires effort, and also a microphone.
Unless you wake up in the middle of the night covered in sweat, after dreaming about how THE BARRACKS IS NOT DOWN YET, then no, not really.
We, good players just have more time to show how better we are, because we get things done faster and then we can express how better we are. And how elitist. :p Good comms also fool around with epeen walling D:
