From the discussion at this thread (http://forums.empiresmod.com/showthread.php?t=9375) I think it will be usefull to add a tutorial mode. If you look at a building or something certain happens then a message should appear. This tutorial mode should be toggled on or off by key. Examples: -Player looks at barracks Barracks are the point where you spawn. If there are several barracks you can change your spawn point by pressing enter. You also can change your class inside by pressing b. -Player looks at vehicle factory Here you can build vehicles. Press v to enter the menu. Be sure that your tank has armor and engine. This can be changed by pressing the customize button. You can't build vehicles if there are not enough ressources. Don't forget to assign the weapons to several groups and mouse buttons. -Commander give move order The commander wants you to move to this location. And because the commander mostly is an experienced player it is always important to follow these orders. -Teammate asked engi for ammo A teammate need ammo. You can place an ammo crate by using your engi tool and pressing right mouse button. -Player reaches 20 points You can now select a new skill by pressing b. -Engi spawns without a selected skill You can choose one skill by pressing b. For engi repair upgrade or revive is most usefull. -Rifleman is near enemy tank Sticky bombs are effective against tanks. You can switch your kind of grenades by pressing b. ...
Looks at CV: This is the command vehicle. From this vehicle your commander can build and give orders. If this vehicle is empty, your commander is likely building something. If the command vehicle is destroyed, your team loses. You should probably not attempt to drive this vehicle as it is incredibly important to your team. If you take the vehicle while the commander is out, you will likely earn the ire and distrust of your team. You should NOT steal this vehicle. Ever. Seriously.
#agree...although, so far as I know, I think the last time this was suggested the old dev team had problems trying to even get something like this working.
A tutorial is good, but only the idiots need it, and we dont need idiots in the first place, so why bother making a tutorial...
golden... Also rolden if you'd go play civ4 and you have never played a turnbased strategy game, wouldn't you want to have a sort of tutorial mode even though you apperantly have an IQ of 220??? those idiots will go play empires anyways so having a tutorial mode will only help the game.
A good game should be self explaining. People are playing to have fun and not to read boring tutorials. How to make this mandatory and how to prevent that players must do the tutorial on every server? And beside of this I think that learing while doing is better and more fun.
^ever play the hidden? multiplayer wont unlock until you complete single player (just 1 map), besides im sure if you looked hard enough you could find 1 line in a config file to change if you really did not want to do the level. and having a system where looking at a building/team mate/vehicle shows 1 sentence explaining what is special about it makes it self explaining and avoids pages of reading. and after the 2nd game is finished it tells you where the hidden off switch is for the popups.
