I just finished watching a user-made video on gametrailers for this guy's top ten list of rts games. I was really surprised how crappy it was so i decided to make a thread here to rant. You can watch it here http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/309726.html?playlist=featured . Anyway, since I think a lot of people here are huge rts fans, I'm curious what your top ten list would be. Mine is: 10. Sins of a Solar Empire 9. Homeworld 8. Rome: Total War (I know, its kind of a hybrid game) 7. Red Alert 2 6. Dawn of War 5. Starcraft 4. Total Annihilation 3. Warcraft III 2. Rise of Nations 1. Company of Heroes
your number 1 is wrong, it looks like a "4" for some reason and strangely it is also between number 3 (warcraft 3) and 5 (starcraft) for some strange bizarre reasoning
Despite their serious nostalgic value, both starcraft and total annihilation are becoming outdated. They're great and classic, but I think that realistically there are better strategy games that have come out since. I also think the campaign in WC3 was done much better than the one in SC, and its gameplay was just more fun. Plus, unlike SC2 and Diablo 3, WC3 was not just an uninspired sequel-clone.
10. Kknd 9. Warzone 2100 8. Age of mythology 7. Red Alert 1 6. CnC Tiberian sun 5. Red Alert 2 4. Age of empires the conquerers 3. Supreme commander 2. Rise of Nations 1. Total Annihilation note that turn based strategies are not included (massive assault, civilization etc etc)
Nobody mentioned Empire Earth? My strategy was to build an epic wall around my area until I could build catapults to defend it.
1. Empire Earth: Art of Conquest 2. Star Wars: Empires at War 3. Red Alert 4. Age of Mythology 5. Age of Empires III(Never played the other ones) 6. C&C Tiberian Sun 7. Rise of nations 8. Supreme Commander 9. Home World 10. World in Conflict Hey, I still play Empire Earth online(new lobby came out) :D maybe you would like to play with me some time :D I love Empire Earth, it is dunamic, different epochs(lol, 15 epochs) different civlizations, qauzillion units, custo mcivlizations, different resources, different buildings, ect. And it has an awesome scenario editor that lets you make multiplayer scenarios :D
Empire Earth is my absolute favorite RTS. Back in the day, I played EE:AOC for approx. two years straight and because of that I can't play it anymore because my CD doesn't work. (This is funny because I played WCIII with a huge crack in the CD for a month until it exploded.) If I play it again, I will have to find Enigma's Civ. because that was the best civ. (Then again, times have changed therefore the civ. is probably useless now.) If the new lobby doesn't require CD keys, I believe I will join the new EE community and will air-whore with my B-2s! Which reminds me, if you leave EE out of the top 10 RTS list, you sicken me.
i never played empire earth, so i excluded it for my list since i dont want to be a pretentious bastard making it up on the go
Download it, you no longer need a cd key. As I said, my list does not contain the greatest RTS games ever mdae. It's just the games I played and wich ones I enjoyed most. Never played WArcraft III or Starcraft(please dont kill me now).
I played a decent amount of EE back in the day, but looking back I don't really think it was that great. Sure, there were some cool aspects about it, but I think this one game that's better left to my memory. I think that without a doubt Rise of Nations surpasses it on every level.
10 Ground control 2 9 C&C Zero hour 8 Supreme Commander 7 Stronghold 6 Medieval 2: Total War 5 Company of heroes 4 Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance 3 Red Alert 1 2 Rome: Total War 1 Warzone 2100 That's almost the entire list actually ... TO DEVELOPERS EVERYWHERE: I'll pay 100$ for a worthy Warzone 2100 sequel
Hmm, let's look at that... -Empire Earth Custom Civilizations GOOD Air Combat You can upgrade your units(Speed, Range, Attack, Armor, Power, ect.) Hero's No building limit Single Player and Multiplayer Scenario support(Also different genres are supported) Good Campaigns(EEC not AOC) Less realism Rock-Paper-Scissor Unit System 15 epochs ect. -Rise of Nations Different wayof gathering resources All civilizations have different graphics All civilizations have special units Tactical Unit System More Wonders Better Graphics 7 Epochs Tech points required to advance Building Limit Realistic Nukes ect. I like Empire Earth and I like Rise of Nations, but I played EE more.
I actually haven't played a straight RTS that's been as fun as the oldskool Dune2, despite having the "decade of C&C" pack that's got it all up to C&C Generals.
