15. I played C&C first. And I loved the heck out of it. I sucked at it completely, but it ruled. I feel that I'm that middle generation. I'm not quite the oldschool gamers, from DOOMs release. But I know my history, and I respect old games, because quite frankly, a lot of them are way better than games now. Unlike the damn casual gamer nowadays. They care of NOUGHT BUT GRAPHICS. I think us gameplay-gamers are a dying breed, and I'm one of the youngest. It's sad to think that nobody that really matters prefers graphics over gameplay. RIP Oldschool game(r)s. P.S. My 'rich' gaming history and love for the oldschool stems from my parents, they've been gamers forever. I used to watch em play baldurs gate. Screaming "HEALTHPOTS HEALTHPOTS!" Good times.
Does all 1.6 CS freaks count in there? :p I really didn't know it had such great graphics. And.. About Red Alert 2, it's servers, are they down forever?
If it comforts you, players actually do prefer gameplay over graphics. At least, as far as FPS games on the PC go. It's why Crysis and UT3 didn't do as spectacularly as expected. Unfortunately, the developers don't quite get it. Most of them have forgotten about gameplay, and just ride the wave of what looked good in previous games. I blame EA.
Well, my computer can barly PLAY crysis, so I must really say: GAMEPLAY over graphics. For those who think different, look at this photo for 1 hour: http://chrisevans3d.com/images/crysis_high_res/crysis8.jpg
Downloading that photo takes already an hour. It's getting here extremely slowly even my ADSL is 512/512 and it should come fast. Edit: Ah, now it came. The site apparently doesn't like hotlinking and that's why reduces the bandwidth usage to non-existing.
Crysis is not just about graphic...It's about it's modding tool that gives your average joe that just began to play FPS the power of the finest mapper ever born. (and also advertise for CryEngine2, seriously, Crysis sold more copy than the company anticipated according to their press release, yep, they thought it was going to do worse.) I don't really remember what my first game was...I think I was around two when I first starting play video games (saw it on some old tape my dad made of me playing some odd math education game, the screen is completely black and whtie D: ) But the first game that strikes an impression was the first Xcom/UFO. Good times, can't believe no one mention xcom yet
yeah, but terrain is one of the harder part. Can't even begin to imagine how anyone is suppose to create those jungle with hammer. I also believe modders around the world will fix the game up with some mods. That's why I am not so critical to Crysis. yes, the gameplay is average, but CryTek knows the importance of modding. Just look at all the cool Crysis mod that's popping out.
I though XCOM's greatness was so obvious it just kind of goes without saying. I found a patch which makes it fully XP compatible, no need to do soundblaster emulation and such, so I still play it to this day. :D
i always found Master of Orion 2 to be superior to the xcom series, but im in love with my repulsive high-g hivemind ground troop shipstealing massive armys
I find that the CryTek Editor is quite easy to use cus there is a turtoriol here: http://doc.crymod.com/
Staredit and all of it's 3rd party mimicks. They've pushed StarCraft past nearly every concieved limit.
man the green screens had some decent games, but i must say Pharoes Tomb was AWSOME(3 colors and everything!). paratroopers was fun to, dont let them stack up too your gun!
