Thoughts about food

Namely, what does Haggis taste like? This is directed primarily at Dee. But also, as I read this article, I began to wonder what sort of crazy/awful food experiences other people have had.

For example, I have resorted to canabalism many many times, especially in Mainer, where my shelly bretheren are far cheaper.

Also, I once ate rotten tofu. It's called "Stinky Tofu," and it's supposed to be... I don't know, some sort of delicacy or something. Well, this was out in the sticks, where this kind of stuff is made fresh, I guess. It comes out on the table, white and green, and I think, oh, this isn't so bad. But as soon as they cut it open, I realize why the name is as it is. The stuff literally smells like dog shit. I've had dogs all my life and I've had to clean up my fair share of the stuff so I should know what it smells like. And when they break that seal, the smell hits you like a sack of hammers. It smelled like someone took a dump on the table. Words do not sufficiently convey the smell. The people I was with were all collectively gagging slightly.

And I put it in my mouth.

Imagine what dog shit mixed with cheddar cheese tastes like. Yeah, kind of like that.

Also one time I had steak and kidney pie, but that wasn't gross at all. The kidney just tasted like cheap meat. Cow tongue is good, too.

If I had to eat any bug/insect, it would be the wichetty grub. (Why all the asians? I don't know. They must like the grubs. I just linked the first articles I could find.) I learned about this sucker in the Chicago Natural History museum. It's supposed to taste like almonds. I like almonds! It gets HUGE, like 5 inches long.

 

I'm a vegetarian. But star fruit is pretty fucked up.

Quick note: No, I'm not high. Quit staring at me like that, damn it. I just like cooking and trying new foods. Sometimes disgusting ones.

Also, I don't mean to imply that haggis is disgusting. It's just something I wouldn't be used to. I'm sure it's delicious.

I've wanted to try those wichetty grubs since i learned that they existed. Look at this guy finding the markings of a grub then pulling it out of the tree and eating it and tell me that isn't bad ass.

Also, if weird fruit is your game then look at the durian. I heard about this on the radio. Now I want to try one. Apparently, they smell awful, but taste great. ".. its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. "

 

Alligator is pretty nasty.

Here's a good one to try, Llapingacho It's basically Mashed potatos filled with cheese in the middle & fried in into little potato pancakes, usually served with chicken & pork (Sausages usually). It's very good

 

Ostrich steaks are pretty good. Should try it.

Rattlesnake kinda tastes like calamari.

 

I said weird or disgusting posts! That doesn't sound disgusting in any way, shape, or form! even describing it sound delicious! >:-(


Offtopic: how do you make an angry emoticon? Mine comes out as a frown with a > over it.



Ontopic: I heard that buffalo steak/buffalo in general is delicious, IF it is cooked right. I've only had it when it wasnt. The meat is so lean and low in cholesterol that it gets dry super easy and tastes gross.

One last thought: no "your mom" jokes, DR, I know you're thinking it.

The nervous system in the apendages is developed enough that it moves independent of the brain, much like a cockroach maintains the ability to move without it's head. The difference is that squid and octopus are actually very intelligent, perhaps the most intelligent of invertebrates.

Pet octopus that grasps fine manipulation and an intrinsic sense of playfulness? ok. squid tentacles still wriggling around while you chew them? Gross.

Even I would cook those wichety grubs before I ate them. (Their skin is said to resemble filo pastry when cooked.)

I love sushi. If you kill it and put it on rice, I'll eat it, usually raw. Whole squid, sea urchin, eel, whatever. But I draw the line when the food is still moving.

 

The most sickly animals- rats and pigeons, are delicacies over in China I thought. And apparently they make a really good, healthy meal.

Ok the only thing I can think of is frog legs. I thought it had a texture like chickin but tasted more like fish.... Though the vains are disterbing to look at when eating.

 

Either im really hungry or really sick... Because now I want to go and eat some live food...

I ate grubs before, so I woudlnt mind chugging that whole thing raw...

 

ok.. some odd food i have eaten...

Pâté-I like a bit of this on toast, its made from mushed up pig liver.

Black Pudding-I love this stuff, it's made from pig intestines filled with blood and oats.

Pickled Chilli-Not realy much to say, it's spicy and acidic but still nice.

Shark-I had this in Italy once when i was little and i have to say it is one of the nicest fish i have ever eaten.

Squid-Yeah i like a bit of squid every now and again... so long as it's dead and cooked (perfurably deep fried)

Swordfish-Not much to say exept i liked it...

Quorn-Ew... cheap vegetarian excuss for meat.

Tofu-Tastes of nothing and is falvored by the rest of your meal.

black pudding ftw. no offense, but that sounds disgusting, like rotten oatmeal. But I haven't tried it, it's probably not bad.
