So whats the deal with her anyway? I know that being 1)female 2)prime minister, and above all 3)british Gives you a high chance of being a real dick, but it seems intriguing how every single islander is overjoyed by the news. FYI in abroad media she was always portrayed positively.
I like her, but a lot of people really, really don't. She was rather controversial with what she did. Britain was very Union based with the workforce and she pretty much destroyed the unions.
She turned Britain away from industry and towards being an economy very much based on services. Overall she might well have given Britain many prosperous years that it would not have otherwise had - but lots of people felt it was at too high a cost. She was a very tough old battle axe and she swung against the political establishment pretty hard. I don't think she was very likeable really, she really polarised the country. Instead of uniting people in one direction she just basically just dragged the country in that direction kicking and screaming out of the terrible funk it was in. We need to reanimate Maggie and set her lose on the Fed & the IMF!
