In BF2 they call the "f" thing (or in their case "Q") the como rose or somthing, as most players will know. The one empires has is a bit cluttered. If there could be a simplified version of it only including the essentials; squad, medic/repairs, spotted, ammo, orders and a thank-you.
the basics would be handy to have, but i like it as it is. when you learn the commands, they're so damn quick!
I hate being too fast for it, fadd "I need a Medic!" sometimes ends up as nothing as I've imputed it too fast. I think the wording needs changing, but I can't remember what all the menus say. and yes, i have memorized it also, it makes things so much simpler.
im surprised it takes so long really. i guess it waits for the visuals to be loaded before excepting more key strokes.
I wish it worked like in BF1942, where you just press the F# keys. You get used to it quickly, and it'd be better than the current system in every aspect; it wouldn't block your view, you could still move properly, etc.
perhaps, you use an F# key to get to the listings that are under that key, and at the bottom of the screen a small list of the available options would become available. F1 -> -F1: medic -F2: ammoz -F3: engineer -F4: repair F2 -> X has been spotted -F1: Infantry -F2: APC -F3: Armour -F4: Enemy Commander ect...
My only problem is that you cant move while you use it. If it could maybe be done similar to CSS where it 1-0, then it would be easier to move and communicate.
It's not always necessary to be original in every aspect. Sometimes it's just much better to do things in the traditional way.
i like the command system. as sandbag and templar said, once you memorize them it is faster than any other command system i have used. the problem is the squad system isnt implemented well, but if i remember right thats being change in .08, so all is well. fadd fada fww all you need for quick, effective communicating. it just needs to be a tad more responsive, and mabey let individual commands be bindable for those who cant be bothered to memorize 4 keystrokes.
yeah, the only thing that lets it down is the responsiveness, and the fact that you can't duck while doing it.
Are there any commands for the console that leads to the same actions, which are regularly initiated by the f menu ?
Its still a pain though. Many times I have tried to use the 'enemy armor spotted' command, only to get shot to death trying to move and send the command.
