Up until now, pretty much all of my Empires playing has been in public games. There's nothing wrong with that, but frankly I'm eager to see the game pushed to its limits. What do I need to know? What clans are available to me, and how do I apply? How is strategy different?

Go to http://www.empiresleague.com/clans.php there you can find all clans that are active atm I think. The conditions under which you can apply diver from clan to clan. JPL is as a example invite only (elitist bastards ) Most clan members are as stupid as you so dont fear to just apply at the clan you want to join. And if they dont let you in they can tell you how you have to improve to be in a clan (tip: dont say your fav class is scout )

Well, it lists some clans, yeah, but... all of the actual noted matches took place months ago. Does the league only run part of the year, or something? ...Dammit.
League sucked. Season One was an advanced course in politics. Season Two was just JPL killing everyone. I know JPL and T-S is supposed to have a scrim in about, 2 hours. If you want matchs, see if you can get T-S to invite you. They are scrimming us over the summer. Damn straight.
No, no where close. I know of 4 working clans.... and that includes TS and Ghost. Don't get me started about the league. Strategy in clan matches is very much different from the noob matches seen in public. If you get a chance check out JPL vs BSID. These are the best two clans and is the collection of the best 25 or so people to have ever played the game. Communication is very key in clan matches and LISTENING to your comm is essential. I have long been an advocate of organized pick up games in order to show people who have not been clans the whole different game play involved in clan matches.
About clan warfare? It is nasty stuff when it as its worst. Shit gets very personal and people are insulted on personal level. Servers get cracked and people get all kinds of letters in their emails. That's how it is on its worst, it gets very personal.
There aren't enough clans. We need around 10 to do a season right. Now there are maybe 5. CW will be back for the next league season, but you newbies need to start making new clans instead of joining established ones.
