I want this subway station to be in my map.

So is it possible in your opinion?

Will it be easy or hard ?

Is there anyone that could help me with textures ?

Is there a way to do those arch without those 32 side cylinder , because they look crappy.

if you make tons of pictures I can try to make textures :)
But it'll be ALOT of hard work!

Would be nice in game :)

i suggest moddeling 80% of it

preferrably just moddeling everything besides the floors, and just putting it in a box where the only brushes you can hit are the floors

Thank you guys for the answers .

I do not know anything about modeling , how hard is it ?

I can take pictures but I'd have to organise that because I live 2h away from Paris.

I'll try to find more pictures on the internet maybe it will help.

Is it possible to model doors then make them open/close

not hard, but nothing like how mapping is

yes, make a dynamic model and parent it to an invisible brush door

Then you only have to learn one SDK tool.

The geometry part is fairly possible, but as for the lighting it would be pretty hard to get it to look like that

With some experience in hammer, all that geometry work would be easy, and working doors, moving trains, breakable glass etc. would all be easy compared to the lighting and looks of the place. Only after a lot of work (weeks, months?) could you get it to look near to that photograph. Probably not worth it if it's just going to be a secondary feature of a map.

If you want to get a little more desolate style there are tons of perfect props, textures, decals, sounds and details that are standard with the SDK that you could use, Granted they may not exactly fit Empires style but it should not be hard to make them look like they belong. It is probably best to stick with default props if you are new to mapping anyways.

Not sure how well Propper works, but what I would consider is making that round architecture from displacements and using smoothing groups to make it look good.

The only thing not possible in Hammer are those hoops. And since they're not possible in Hammer, you can't use Propper, sorry ScardyBob.

That's not to say that many things wouldn't be better modeled, as already mentioned.

The main obstacle is just the effort required doing everything to make it semi-accurate.
    Rating: Hard.

well actually it depends on how accurate you want your subway station to look like this if its hard or not. you will never get even close to photorealistic with source, thats sure - but with a bit experience it should totaly be possible.

and demented ofc they are possible to make in hammer -> make a ring -> turn it to displacements -> subdivide

    POC

its just currently not possible to turn them to props with propper as it doesnt support displacements, but thats irrelevant as disps are quite cheap anyway ...

See how many of those you can put in a map before it melts.

he said its impossible - but ill try that now ^^

    edit:
given they are less detailed then the one i posted as i wanted to save up compile time (power 2 instead of 4 and less disps at all; its half of them)

but as this are 60 and thats way more than xya would ever need there is some room ;)

oh and i didnt mean to say it SHOULD be dont that way ... i only meant to say, it IS possible ... ofc models would be way better as they have a collision mesh ^^
