1.071b Latency displays at 60 on the server list Varies between 60 at standstill to 300+ while moving My FPS is about 40 looking towards the center of the map, 170+ towards the outside of the map. Studdering is most noticable in a vehicle. Trying to steer is a pain. I tried hosting my own game to check if the studdering persists but, something in the mod/install is preventing me from starting a server. If you are running Vista then disable AA; for some strange reason it lags like no there is no tomorrow...
Boo hiss. Lowest I've seen my ping is about 200. I have to drop my updaterate to around 5 when I'm on a busy server, sometimes lower. Go look up how to mess w/ rates. And make sure you're not playing on a UK server.
Don Music, get a 56k connection and learn much of this turret problem. Aside from that: Empires is quite demanding on the Source engine, especially for servers. A lot of CS:S servers (which you're probably more used to playing on) can handle 66tic or 100tic easily. A lot of Empires servers are scraping by with 33tic. Moral of the story? We need beefier boxes. That might be what you're referring to. And that's not a failing of the mod itself. Just of the amount of money players/clans toss at the mod.
It would be easier if you would just tell me about the (apparently 56K related) turret problem. :p Yes! I'm that lazy. And hell... how did you think of all the rest of your post?
With much coolness. By the way, I don't think the problem is related to the server's tic rate at all. I just blurbed that. Seeing as how your ping jumps while moving, I'd guess there's something wrong with your upload bandwidth.
