Starting Videos

it would be really cool to take the "talking" part of the 1.0 teaser video, sepereate the NF and the Brenodi side's into 2 videos and do a little randomization on which side's to play when you start up the game.

Well, I can see how it would be cool, or maybe just to have some sort of video, but it would most likely be just skipped through every time the game starts, and if not, we all know how annoying EA's movies are when you start up their games...

 

Could be a community project of sorts though. I wouldn't like to see the devs spend any time on it apart from implementing the video into the game start. They have much more important things to do before they earn themselves their cookies.

 

Starting videos like valve's one when you run the game? Or 3D background like in Half-life²? (both?)

 

yes, the background shot be three dimentional. it looks elite

 

but needlessly increases load time.

 

And do you remember how long the first map load takes when you connect to a server? It'll be murder.

 

Dumpster, all you need to do is stand up from your computer, maybe go grab a cup of coffee, at a starbucks, find a nice girl, have some good conversations, wait a bit, get married, buy a house, have some kids and debate what kind of lawnmower you're going to buy. After you do all that stuff, the game will already be loaded and you'll be ready to go. You'll hardly have known the difference.

 

I dunno.. starbucks can take quite a while to serve you sometimes...

Seriously though, I much prefer the simple screen in empires to any 3D one just because it takes so much longer to load. Maybe some sort of animation loop in the background. (Think oblivion video loop in the main menu)

 

why don't we just get it to load some paint jpg and save even more space?

You mean a real video, I understood a small add (5-10sec) like every developpers make...

 

Ooo.. I still have screenshots of that massive tank battle on canyon from a few months back...
