My first attempt at pronouncing "squirrel" sounded like "screw you".

German is pretty easy to pronounce, I'm a bit out of practice because I don't speak it but mostly it's just pronounced exactly as it reads.

Unlaik in Ingliesh. I ägri. Or as one of my german teachers said once, english arose from from french influence garbled latin. AKA your weird spelling of letters comes from the french influence, ofc it doesn't sound like french because it was only influenced and quite some time ago (500-1000a.d.), but it's still undenieable. :|ove:
Compare the word problem f.e., exists in german, latin (problema), french (problème) and english, just which sounds closer to which ...

so I don't see the problem ( x: ) with spelling squirrel, but sqöilrel.

The only part of german that should give english speakers trouble is the 'hgggk' phlegm noise you need in words like 'Tochter'. English doesn't really have that sound so you need to learn to do it, but once you get that and the umlaut sounds down you should be fine.

Ä sounds like the word 'air'
Ö sounds like the noise you make when disgusted, 'urgh gross'
Ü sounds like the noise you make when surprised and delighted 'ooo lovely'

    And cows say μ.

Greek gets all the cool letters. But can anyone seriously make a good lower case gamma? I swear to God, it's impossible. My thetas and lambdas are pretty bitchin though.

html code doesn't work on paper...

And yes, it can't look like a y (or Y).

But if you try to differentiate from y by curling the little bubble thing, it can look like an alpha...

I've put some thought into these things. .P

make the down line point downwards instead of being slightly angled? yes i know its no line ...
but maybe its not the gamma and you need to rethink your y ;)

also an alpha? you should work on those too if they look like a gamma ... hehe
a and y are quite different - but maybe you should try to stay in line more.

Yeah, to differentiate from Y, gamma cannot simply be a Y that crosses down below the writing line (or w/e it's called). Likewise, it cannot be slanted like a y. It's only other differentiater is how it's got a loop.

But then if you make the loop too pronounced and the rest of the letter not pronounced enough, you have an alpha (not a, alpha) on its side.

And when you're writing in margins, all hell is breaking loose and puppies are falling from the sky, gamma will look like Y, y or alpha. And it doesn't hurt that I have remarkably terrible penmanship.

Jews are good at it because hebrew actually has a letter for that sound, but all other english speakers would have difficulty. It's generally what gives people trouble with german more than anything really, of course all the letters sound different in german but that's one of the few sounds that just doesn't exist in english.

Otherwise, it's just a matter of rearranging the alphabet sounds a bit, and replacing one of them with the word 'yacht'.

You know I still have the entirety of 'ich habe ein pony, ich habe zwei pudel' stuck in my head from year seven german?
