Yeah, that was a bitch, but fortunately for me I was SO fucking dumb I didn't know how to get past the first forest to get to the gym so by the time I figured it out I already had a charmeleon

 

Some people managed to get Charizards before the first gym encounter :/

 

nice but uhh, doesn't the pokemon stop obeying you after it reaches a certain level? =o

According to the first generation ruleset, that only applies to pokemon that were traded to you. Anything you've caught/bred yourself should always obey you. I guess this might've changed in Ruby/Saph/Emer, I haven't really kept up-to-date.

 

That would explain it. I tried to cheat by giving myself a lvl 100 charizard from the begining

ADD: I just played pokemon ruby for 8 hours straight last night =(
