If you play this mod a while you often can see which side will win before round start. Also I guess that it frustrates new players even more, because they don't know the good players and so the lose even harder. Here my suggestion: For every player the number of hours he is playing is counted (Could be done locally, because we have only 2 active server) 0 - 25 hours --> Newbie = count as 1 player 25 - 100 hours --> Experienced = count as 2 players 100+ hours --> Veteran = count as 3 players At the team selection you can only join the side with less people (like now). Only difference is that not all players do count the same.
There are always exceptions. And also there will be new players who will be very good in no time. But for the vast majority of players this system will work.
I don't see how it can fail harder then the last 5 games I was in... jpl and bsid tag teamed one side each time and stomped new guys.
In which way? The system would first only count the hours and will be later activated. And because of the small playerbase it will be no problem to add some hours by hand.
i suggested something similar a while back. when Empires is finally on Steam, track people's kill/death ratio and the people's commander victory/defeat ratio and assign people on teams, depending on these ratio to keep it as even as possible. it should work, unless someone has too much time on their hands and cheat the system. of course it would be A LOT easier if servers would just turn on Random to put people on random team. but.. random team join would be less effective if teams are even and someone is a late join.
I would never create a forced way of making teams. It's a bad idea in general. yeah. If trickster can get a coder to code something in as a cvar, fine. But not forced.
Not 100 hours when we still have people saying it took them 3 weeks to find out how to upgrade a turret. That's our core gamers right there. I'd probably go for 1000 hours being a pub vet and 100 being not a newbie.
guys you make it too difficult why take gametime? there is another variable out on the field that determines much better how a player performs: points why dont we just take the points of everyone and determine that way how good they are or maybe even points per game to keep the numbers in borders with that method you would even be able to recognize if a player perform worse then before
This is such a stupid suggestion. People learn the game at a different pace. Besides, not all vets are equal and you know that there are vets who are far more skilled than others. And believe me, I didn't get there by playing fucking 100 hours.
indeed, time is not very good for gauging pro-ness... i still think "random all" is the best thing to do and it would be up to server operator to decide if turn on or not. simple and easy to do. of course this would exclude people who want to spectate =P.. "god" forbid we take spectator away lol
