Spoiler: Conversation with Hawk 171 - Hawk: I found a terrible bug in Empires 172 - Hawk: look at the shadows of BE players when they wear a pistol 174 - Hawk: btw 174 - Mr. X.: hard to find someone to look at 175 - Hawk: or maybe also when they got a calculator 175 - Hawk: u will see that shadows show something wrong 176 - Mr. X.: looks fine to me 176 - Mr. X.: but people keep moving to so it's hard to look at it 176 - Hawk: it shows the SMG instead of pistol... but maybe its just me 177 - Hawk: at NF its ok 177 - Mr. X.: shit you're right, it does it for NF too 178 - Mr. X.: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197987372696/screenshots/ 179 - Mr. X.: doesn't look like it does it for BE as far as I'm concerned 179 - Mr. X.: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=793314611 17:40 - Mr. X.: and now it doesn't do it anymore for NF 17:40 - Mr. X.: weird 17:41 - Mr. X.: hm 17:41 - Mr. X.: looks like it's when changing from SMG to calculator 17:42 - Hawk: yea 17:42 - Hawk: also I saw that on the gren rocket launcher, when he swithed to pistol there was still the rocket launcher shadow 17:42 - Hawk: at BE 17:43 - Hawk: *switched When changing from SMG to calculator the shadow does not change properly.
That's a performance optimization in the source engine. It uses the collision mesh to calculate shadows instead of the model you see and assumes that the weapon is shaped like an AK47. Thanks for reporting it, unfortunately I'm not sure if it would be worth the performance hit and effort to fix this.
Your answer makes no sense to me, why only the calculator? why does everything else works fine? why only when you switch to the calculator after the SMG? What does this have to do with the AK47? The shadow doesn't look like an AK47 at all. Why would the calculator's shadow be a performance hit when everything else works fine?
can you not just replace the collision mesh with a small (around actual calc size) rectangle? also a simpler collision mesh would reduce performance impact and not increasing it! but i agree on the effort and that the performance difference might be minimal - tough it's still a bug and be worth to be added to the tertiary bug list (to be fixed after human's extinction)
I was under the impression that the rest was bad as well, couldn't see it very well in the video. If not I can probably add it to the low priority issue queue. If the rest works well then we probably made a mistake, then the calculator should work correctly as well.
I was gonna make some better screens, but had some real life happenings. Think thats Pistol 2? Guess thats related to this? Found that some weeks ago...so just posting.
