Hello, first let me admit that I'm a novice to the whole mods world and only have moderate experience with game servers. At my school however, as part of my internship I was put incharge of running various game servers, including a dedicated public server, we recently tried to deploy empires and as of today finally got a dedicated server installed. However, we couldn't locate it in the server browser, so I did a console connect, and received an "Invalid Steam key size" error. Looking around I discovered that when I do a version command on the client end I get : Protocol version 14 Exe version 1.0.1.0 (value) Exe build: 14:41:17 Feb 2 2009 (3740) (218) And when I checked the version on the server I got: Protocol version 15 Exe version 1.0.1.0 (value) exe build: 11:40:43 Mar 5 2009 (3771) (218) from prior server troubleshooting the difference in version numbers concerns me, and if so how do I update the client. Otherwise, any other help? Thanks
do you have version 2.23 that came out last week? if not (and i dont think you do, since march 5 is when the new update was released- a day or 2), i have good news and bad news... the game became more awesome, but you will have to download again
Thanks for the quick reply, I jst looked, and no we where not running 2.23 on either end, I jst downloaded and patched both however the situation remains the same, any suggestions?
redo everything with 2.23 install you probably fucked up patching invalid steam key size sounds like your OB stuff isn't updated
You need to update srcds. Just re-run hldsupdatetool.exe with whatever parameters you originally gave it (probably -game "tf" or -game "orangebox").
