Hey, Here's my idea about how the download page should look. I hope it cuts down on n00bs not downloading the full beta client. I also subtly included my views on how updates should go, but that's a secondary function of this image. Sorry if it's big, I'm not the king of image thumbnailing. I even got a girl I work with to look it over, and she says she would likely be able to figure it out.
Two and three are identical: Might creat some confusion. Here my suggestion with examples: - 1.07 newest Basic Client - 1.064 to 1.07 patch (newest patch can be used only with version before, and because of this, it should be very small) - latest Patch 1.07 (as far as I know it can be use with all versions from 1.0 to 1.064) - 1.0 Basic client *not up to date* - server & severpatches...
That seems to complicated for me Tom, and I think the Basic client should be at the top of the list. I think most people who have the game installed and patched will be able to find the latest incremental at the bottom of the page. It's the people who are looking at it for the first time who need as much help as possible. I didn't include one full patched installer, because it's not that hard to download the full beta and the patch. One more file is another file that needs to be hosted which is IMO redundant.
yeh this would definitly make it a lot better, also you could just merge 2 and 3 and give the mirrors. I like how ns has it now aswell: http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/ I mean the instructions (especially the part about the manual ) and then at the end put the incremental patch with one paragraph saying this is for ppl that already have 1.0 and 1.07 or whatever and just want the latest patch
In light of a recent post, I'm going to bump this. BUMP! [edit] That Page up top was done in paint, it still amazes me
I think maps should wait until each release... I know it's a dull wait, but it means that when the server plays a map, everyone has that map, and there are no maps wanting to be played that the server doesn't have.
Best thing to do would be repackage the whole kit, if for nothing else, then for bittorrent release. Does the empires installation affect anything other then the files in the empires folder? Even if so, there shouldn't be too big of a problem having a complete installer
It's very clear now. well done. though perhaps you need another option bit establishing if they have 1.07 already or not, so people don't needlessly download the 1.0 - 1.07 patch.
Not really. You'd be surprised how many people find out about Mods from places like FilePlanet, ModDB, etc. where download pages are even more of a mess than we used to have prior to Krenzo's clean-up.
