No 0.40 will not be a standalone, but it will be a full release and not just a patch/update.

 

what juristiction do game developers have over mods? as long as you dont make profit out of it you can go the "free speech" or "parody" tour in court

you could even make a north korean non profit organisation and make it as a project of the non profit organisation, then make all the crew owner of the non profit organisation, but with an assigned "board" of controle (the owners are no longer in controle of the organisation, and cant be held responcible for what it does) then seat the "board" to someone in north korea and hire the entire crew for no payment

im no pro in american right, but afaik then the worst they can do without breaking any laws or protocols is put a restriction to sell in the states

but guess what... you werent selling anyway...

all of the mods mentioned in this thread that where "shut down" where bullied into quitting afaik

people go far too quick "oh no they are sueing us lets quit" approach

 

They aren't even getting sued. They're cease and desist orders. You can challenge them.

The issue is, can you afford the fees to go to court?
And if it does go to court, you can bet EA has the best lawyers around.
