what if engis could right click on the ruins that appear after an enemy building dies and recycle it for res for their team Pros: moar value of destroying enemy refs, force people to defend them with some degree of defense because right now people just drop refs and forget about them, not what would happen Cons: abused somehow? Alternatives: engis could only recycle enemy ruins ruins could stay up longer
Every action in a game has to have a clear motive for players. Destroying enemy buildings already has a clear motive.
There are...so many more things than this..I'm not saying it's terrible, merely that it's unnecessary, and that the last attempt to "recycle" dead things failed miserably.
We were adding this for vehicles, and it will get added at one point. So it's not a bad idea, but the problem with buildings is that it could encourage people to salvage when they should be rebuilding the building that just got placed instead.
what do you mean we are adding it... it WAS in the code at one point for vehicles. Is that one of the things lost in the conversion to steam?
what was wrong? I do remember recycling tanks and getting res for team...ohh... ohhh... was it the Zombietanks issue?
It's still unnecessary complication. You already get a benefit for destroying a tank (i.e. the tank can't kill you...). There's no need for more incentive than that.
part of the good thing about the tanks staying around for a while to be recycled was that they acted as walls... in any map s-bend would be a damned death trap for vehicles. first vehicle to die blocks all the others.
You can't call it shitty map design based on that. it was an unintended side effect of dramatically increasing the tank corpse period. The maps were designed long before that came into play.
The original reason for vehicle salvaging was (actually, it still is the reason) to give a losing team that is destroying a lot of enemy tanks a reward for doing so. Also, it ingrains into a player that if he fucks around and loses a tank, not only does he cost his team resources, he is also giving resources to the other team. (Of course, you can recycle destroyed vehicles of your own team as well, but in my opinion it shouldn't give you the full cost back, while it should for the enemy)
Hmm...where one guy has homing and the other guy is shafted  I prefer somewhere with space but also cover...ya know, like canyon, say. @Beerdude, that sounds good, but i'd prefer if both recover values were a percentage of the original value (ofc).
canyon is, if not the best, one of the best official maps. sadly only that displacement cliffs are so time-consuming to create, bc the tools valve provided to manipulate them are not inteded to create full maps.
No, where you can move. Shit, that's not a bad argument. But I wonder if its easier to just get more aggressive with the "diminishing resources" movement.
