RC 31 Patch - Hold On Just A Little Longer

    Once again, Nov 15 will be the final deadline for getting everything together. Then, we can focus on PR and testing the full install package.

    TODO:
    -Get Linux server working (Rick)
    -Get final compile of Streets of Fire with some required fixes (Grizzly)
    -Get BE engy kit and mg view models animated (Damian)

    With this RC, you can run your own server. This should be used for testing purposes only. Ensure you're running with sv_lan 1. I don't want to see any other servers out there trying to attract players away from the official testing server.

    Empires 1.08 Build 168/RC 31 Changes:

    -Maps: full vis compile of emp_escort with numerous tweaks and optimizations
    -Maps: fixed issues on emp_urbanchaos with grass and crates that weren't solid
    -Maps: disabled nuclear warheads on emp_escort
    -Maps: resource points are now marked on emp_streetsoffire's minimap
    -Added: 'emp_cl_intro_music' cvar to disable the playing of music at map start
    -Added: new BE binoculars view model
    -Added: maps without a commander now have a "waiting for players" phase where no one may spawn; this mimics the commander voting phase of commander based maps and uses the 'emp_sv_wait_phase_time' cvar to set the amount of time to wait
    -Added: the time left in the commander vote and the time left for the "waiting for players" phase of non-commander maps is now printed to the center of the screen
    -Added: new vehicle engine sounds for the CVs, APCs, and AFV/LT
    -Added: 'emp_sv_research_item <string>' and 'emp_sv_unresearch_item <string>' cvars to allow the selective researching or unresearching of a specific item at any time (ie, use it in the map load script file for more versatility in allowing/restricting certain weapons on non-commander maps)
    -Fixed: crash when entering command vehicle
    -Fixed: tank turret pitch resetting to 0 when bringing up the voice menu, scoreboard, or other vgui window
    -Fixed: view turning black and colors bleeding when bringing up a vgui window while in a tank
    -Fixed: players couldn't exit a vehicle in areas with low ceilings
    -Fixed: client-side vehicle MG tracers were broken in RC 30 and firing without any weapon spread
    -Fixed: scout in a jeep with binoculars was shown as standing instead of sitting
    -Fixed: tracers from other players originating from a very wrong location
    -Fixed: mortar and RPG needing to be reloaded could be fired without any projectile being shot out
    -Fixed: in the vehicle customization GUI, the heat capacity and MG Slot numbers listed were bugged
    -Fixed: getting stuck in the BE wall model while building it
    -Fixed: nf crates having incorrect normal maps
    -Fixed: vehicle engines could turn silent when rapidly transitioning from one engine sound to another
    -Fixed: player could prone into a vehicle wheel and be pushed through an adjacent displacement surface
    -Fixed: difficulty in exiting the 2nd seat of a vehicle
    -Fixed: mortar and RPG missiles exploding immediately upon firing in some vehicles
    -Fixed: vehicle fired shells could collide with their own turret and explode if the vehicle is moving fast enough
    -Fixed: NF landmine model was floating above the ground
    -Fixed: vehicles turning completely black when destroyed
    -Fixed: players and vehicles that are spotted would not immediately show the correct position on the minimap
    -Fixed: players with the Health Upgrade skill and more than 100 HP but less than 130 HP could get instantly healed back to 130 HP by re-equiping their weapons/class/skills
    -Fixed: player weapon would disappear when getting more mines while in the gunner position of an APC
    -Fixed: with only two players on a team, one player could vote out the other from the command vehicle
    -Fixed: changing key bindings from the controls window will now unbind the previous bindings
    -Modified: with the mortar selected, the normal crosshair is now replaced by a static green crosshair
    -Modified: renamed 'emp_building_smokeinterval' cvar to 'emp_cl_building_smokeinterval'
    -Modified: players can stand on walls and build them once again
    -Modified: lowered first person view point of players in the Brenodi jeep to match where the heads of the player models are located
    -Modified: set the crosshairs while driving a vehicle to be drawn with 0 spread
    -Modified: engineer kit no longer functions when in a vehicle

    couple of fun, hillarious bugs in the process of being reported for 31,... lets just put it this way: dubs... good luck getting infantry-infantry RPG and mortar kills now XD

    Also, very minor issue... does the NF binoc deploy slower then the BE one, now? if so, that is a trivial balancing issue. VERY minor.

    any one else not able too spawn on duststorm on there own server? it just keeps restarting when i try too spawn. also what is emp_cdr_canyon?

    lol Welcome to Empires.

    cdr_canyon is a commanderless version of canyon, with pre-built buildings

    It's not played a whole lot because it's already so perfect, it doesn't need testing.

    I tried making an own server, worked fine and I could spawn on duststorm as Brenodi an Northern Faction. I haven't found any gamestoppers yet and I like the new light vehicle sounds (APC has some quirks maybe) and the smaller northern faction barracks.

    Thanks to the new "own server feature" I was able to test some of the engines and I found a possible bug: Fission Engine is supposed to generate 4 heat if it drives at full speed. It should diss. 5 heat. But the heat stays exactly the same while driving full speed. So the heat on max is 5 instead of 4 (scriptvalue) OR the heat diss. is 4 (instead of 5 like the script says) OR there is a wrong calculation in the code. This would explain a lot of miscalculations I had recently.

    I was just on the server (yeah, i know i should be sleeping) and there was this guy

    # 15 "eyyYo" STEAM_0:1:15202745 01:24 240 0 active

    He didn't seem like he knew what he was doing, so my question is... who is he, and why does he have RC31? His steam ID doesn't match any steam ID that has been on the old CW server or the one I'm currently hosting.

    Don't know much about scripting but that seems right. It loses heat faster than it gains it so it doesn't overheat, simply by driving?

    Petko is aware of the APC sound issues btw =)

    Something is wrong with the password to this file. When I dlded it I botched the password but it still downloaded.

    Excellent change log!

    My bug list-

    -Vehicle Silent Bug Still there
    -When turning LT sound loops
    -APC sound is very slow, only shifts once, and the second gear almost idles at full speed.

    Something I thought was supposed to be changed a long time ago. I could be wrong.
    -The customization screen still requires you to remove the old fitting before adding a new one.

    eyyYo is good folk from way back in emp42. He probably got the RC through Grizzly. He's OK.

    Also, didn't seem to be much an issue but when creating a vehicle, it would say "unknown command: vehicle_mouse_speed" or something like that.

    I suggest changing the password and login since people knew of the rc30 who shouldn't have. And yes, the password is still broke, I entered emp_test and got in.

    Otherwise, beautiful.
