Consider, Brutos, the HD5970 uses 400W overclocked. Two of those in CrossFireX(quad crossfire) themselves use over 800W of power. Then there's, of course, over 200W in other peripherals, motherboard, etc. There's a KW for you.
It's a 5870. But I consider getting a 5970 if there's one as a LCS version pre-built (Or not, depends.)
Fine take your fuckin ASUS MOBO. What are some easy recipes for german food I can make for class? 4 slots for 2 5870s nyoro-n
Yeah, if you're going all-out on a computer, go ahead and take 8 SSD's at $800 a pop with a RAID controller (PCI-E2.0x16) @ $600. Then there's your 6x 24'' monitor setup for eyefinity!
A card with 2 GPUs on it might use 16 PCIe lanes, but a single 5870 is likely not going to use more than 8 lanes. People have done testing to prove this; albeit not on a 5870, but the bandwidth used remains the same. Why bother with the extreme Core i7? The newer Gulftown chips are due very soon...and moreover, you can overclock a i7 920 to 4 GHz pretty easily. The extreme is a waste of money. Frankly, so is 6 hard drives and two 5870s. The system you built is so over the top...just save the money on a few parts and go find yourself self some hookers or something...or buy a few games to go with the system...
haha i wanted to post a nicer version of rampantandroids post, but then i thought a person buying a computer like that would probably want it 50% to brag to his friends (who probably have the "sane" version) about it and if so, its money is well spent but now rampant posted it so i laugh a little
The difference between the i7-920 and any Extreme version is NOT worth it, as RA said. The difference could be better well spent on two HD5970's instead of two HD5870's. Also, you'll need plenty of fans.
