Just wanted to put it out there that there are a lot of shitty maps in empires, and they tend to take servers from super fun 50 players to kinda lame 20 players pretty quickly. Maps that are worse than district, cause apparently you assfags love that kind of thing, maps like temple, or king. So next time when your lulzing about how bad BSID stacks are, make sure you pay attention and vote for a decent map, and maybe even try nominating something better than research. Think of the community.
I rather have hazard, temple, king, and some other good customs than fucking gimmick maps like stalemate and minigames.
stalemate is a gimmick map? oO if anything its a stalemate that eats FPS bc of shit trees ... ... oh wait, i shouldnt complain about my own maps like that does this mean i should scrap the map im making atm? it will be escortish with comms (NF attacking a BE fortress), stalemate was partially a test for this.
No you shouldn't scrap it ! Make it balanced and fun to play, worthy of empires (official empires, not community empires), and you can't do anything wrong with your map. Except not finishing/polishing it. Edit: OT I was checking the server every 30 minutes yesterday evening for a good map, so i could join and take screenshots for the site/steam page. In those four hours, i couldn't join once
Stalemate isn't a gimmick map. It wouldn't be on my server if it was. BUT FUCKING TREES FLASCHE WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING?
I'm going to look at redoing the plugin and then seeing if I can get some more control over the cycle. After that, I'll get a group of people together that aren't stupid (OMG REMOVE THAT MAP, AND THAT MAP, AND THAT MAP) and we'll look at fixing it up. I'm not saying you weren't a help before, but you weren't easy to work with when you wanted to essentially slim the cycle down from about 50 maps, down to something like 15. At the end of the day, lower quality maps make you appreciate the higher quality ones more.
that is exagerating dude. And I've grown ( experience wise ) since what, over 6 months ago. But some maps that use to be played a lot are less wanted now, E.G cyclopean.
btw if you get a group together dont get a group together that used to be known as veterans or barely play empires. Get people together like, ducky, and jimbeam, reznov etc that play the game a lot and know the INGAME community
i didnt really think much about the layout, i was testing something for displacement cliffs* and then figured i like it and created floor disps and placed some tree clusters as infantry cover. i maybe should have invested more then 4-5h for the first version, where most of this time was wasted getting it release ready (minimap, custom texture script shit thing, ...). *a quicker but somewhat dirty way to create displacement cliffs - one that wouldnt need days: - create all cliff-disps touching. - copy 2 lines of displacements below and around your map. keep them grouped seperate they are only to smooth the disps where they go into the ground (or the corners would look sharp) - select all, hit subdivide. it then will appear as if hammer has crashed but it didnt. depending on your computer and the amount of disps this can easily take an hour aswell, so be patient. you notice that its still doing shit when cpu time is above idle and memory keeps going up in processmanger (shit uses only one core) - remove (or better hide them in a visgroup) the excess displacements. - reduce disp scale to 2, it will break them - so you need to hit sew. - depending on your disp size now apply noise. - move disp scale to 3, sew, noise. - move disp scale to 4, sew, noise. - now you select the top displacements only and smooth them a little, bc the noise doesnt look so good on flat ground. - dont forget to sew again since the smoothing will break it. youll need to play around a bit with the noise values. larger displacements need higher values. lower displacement scale also allows for a higher noise.
Hey I take offense to this, no one complains about the map rotation anymore cause it doesn't have dumb maps in it. We removed emp_blast for a reason. Neither were you easy to work with when you kept on saying "no 64 on slaughtered, no 64 on canyon, no etc..." and stuff. 10 in spec man.
yeah the spec thing along with trickster personal self imposed values on maps is the most i hate about the epic server. EASTBOROUGH ISNT A 32 AND UNDER MAP ITS 20 AND UP
I'm not easy to work with, without a doubt, but the difference is, I'm taking into account shit you aren't. Regardless of whether or not 64 player canyon/slaughtered is something you like (which I don't, it's fucking terrible), you can't even begin to imagine the increase in stress that shit puts on the server, that's stuff you guys just don't take into account. And I won't count specs into the equation because the 10 in spec thing only happens when Paradox is sat there spamming "OCCUPIRES OCCUPIRES OCCUPIRES". Eastborough I might have wrong but I certainly wouldn't play it at any more than 20 a side, it just turns into a clusterfuck.
I consider stalemate a gimmick map from being overplayed with all of the other gimmick maps in VIPER. Many of those maps are okay to do if they weren't played every 2 hours.
what is broken with it? i think i even publically posted the vmf somewhere, if it only lacks a recompile, which probably is the problem (hehe), and you ofc are allowed to fix anything you want yourself too. but ill also have a look myself if you tell me what is broken ... btw you can also edit and expand this map - feel free to do that with any of my maps actually. all i want is being credited for the original.
It would be nice if provinggrounds was fixed. All you have to do is recompile and repoint pakrat with those crates you added.
